This is an accurate summary of what we are seeing in the UK market - companies are taking tentative steps into AI, but not putting significant investment into embedding it into companies. Buying a tool like copilot might tick a board mandate to use AI, but it is surface level and overlooks more important tasks like improving data infrastructure to actually facilitate more valuable automation and AI powered insight. If UK companies are to benefit from AI, they need to invest in the large-scale transformation projects to enable this change. Not seeing this yet

🌍 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆: 𝗨𝗦 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗞 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 In an increasingly connected world, understanding how different markets approach data-driven strategies is key to staying competitive. At the 2024 #DataIQ100 Summit in London, Randy Bean and David Reed explored how data-driven decision-making differs between the US and UK markets, focusing on the evolving roles and challenges in #data and #AI #leadership, covering the current landscape, future expectations, and the growing influence of AI. 📊 Key Takeaways: ▪️ The US tends to adopt a more aggressive stance on innovation and investment, prioritising speed and scale while the UK takes a more cautious approach, focusing on precision, compliance, and regulatory alignment. ▪️ US organisations view AI as a #transformative tool - adoption tends to focus on #innovation and long-term industry disruption. In the UK AI is often adopted cautiously, with a focus on incremental improvements like process efficiency and cost reduction rather than large-scale business transformation. ▪️ Both regions share a common goal: embedding AI responsibly to drive value and build trust. 🔗 Whether you're steering a startup or a large, global organisation, this article sheds light on actionable ways to adapt your data strategy to win in diverse markets. Linked below, a really interesting read outlining the US Government's plans for removing degree requirements from major federal IT contracts being a contributory factor to future economic mobility. At Xander, we've never had a degree requirement and are all about creating chances for talented and passionate people who’ve struggled to get around this requirement when applying for roles. We hope this sparks a movement in UK organisations to review their requirements and remove the degree requirement where possible, focusing instead on skills-based hiring and talent development. #skillstraining #techtalent #nodegreenoproblem #talentdevelopment Read the original article - https://lnkd.in/ezrVztDt

A stark account of what it means to be on the receiving end of a culture where hardship, pressure and self-doubt is a rite of passage. I often hear complaints about a new generation of "lazy" employees, but rather, I would like to see more of a celebration of new generations who know their boundaries, worth and does not confirm to the idea that it has to hurt before it gets better. In uncertain times we all need more support and kindness. Lifting people up rather than tearing them down. Seeing the potential and support the growth. #talentdevelopment #skills #diversity

At 13, working as a pot washer in a pub for £3 an hour, I barely said a word to anyone. Many of the staff mocked me for being “strange.” At 16, I was asked to leave my 2 week work experience at a nursery because I “didn’t engage enough.” From 15, I spent 3 years working in a cafe, only finding the comfort to talk with coworkers in my last year there. Another cafe job? I left after three weeks after being left to close on my own and getting so stressed. At 17, I quit a job in a clothes shop after 7 weeks, having been shouted at by a customer over a security tag and struggling to connect with anyone who worked there. At 19, I dropped out of a vacation scheme assessment centre because the stress of making conversation on the office tour became too much. I also ran out of my first law firm open day crying. As a teenager, it’s safe to say I didn’t see a corporate career in my future, if any career at all. I was so disappointed in myself and just wanted to be “better.” Looking back, I feel sad for that younger me, a literal child, and autistic, whether I knew it then or not. I was harsh on myself, but many people who were much older than me were too. I didn’t deserve that. No child does. It took years of building confidence, finding my voice, pushing through discomfort and learning to advocate for myself to believe I could achieve anything. I was rarely told I could. I came close to losing myself, trying to be “employable” and leave that “strange” little girl behind. But she was fine. She just needed to know she wasn’t broken, she needed a little support. Employers: be gentle with your teenage staff, apprentices and work experience students. You never know what they’re carrying and they’re still growing. Not everyone needs “toughening up.” They may just need some support and kindness. And to the many teenage students who message me feeling the same as I did, be patient with yourself. You don’t need to have everything figured out and please don’t break yourself trying to become someone you’re not. You can’t fix neurodivergence, but you can find supportive environments, learn your strengths and work with your brain. It feels like nothing will change at that age, but it will. • As part of our summer series, we’re introducing a few of the talented people who make up our team here at Xander. This week, meet Xander Consultant, Gene. Three years ago, Gene made a bold move to the UK, diving headfirst into a new challenge. Not only did he have to adapt to a new environment, but he also switched careers into the tech industry. Previously a Project Coordinator in Hong Kong, Gene's close collaboration with a tech team on a pivotal project ignited his passion for technology. Driven by curiosity, he taught himself web development and iOS programming, eventually creating two small apps during a software development bootcamp. Gene’s inspiring confidence and vision of success guided him through his journey, landing him roles at Xander - and from there a placement at Quantexa. Now, as an Academy Team Lead at Quantexa, Gene leverages his consulting and data engineering skills to help clients navigate and utilize big data, ultimately aiding in their decision-making. Outside of work, Gene is an avid F1 fan and a bouldering enthusiast. He thrives on solving climbing challenges, believing that the mental agility and resilience needed for bouldering translate into his programming and broader life skills. #meettheteam #summerseries #xanderconsultant #careerchange #opportunity
