  • As we start putting travel plans into place for next year, as employers, colleagues and event creators, need to take into consideration the challenges that parents are facing: International travel presents significant logistical and emotional hurdles for mothers: 1. Breastfeeding mothers: they need for specialised equipment, sanitary spaces for expressing milk,. They also have the mental load of having to think about coordinating storage and transportation of breast milk. One women told us that she purchased six breast pumps when attending an international conference — “a wireless one, one for less pumping, one for more pumping, one that does it loudly, one that is silent”. 2. Logistical burden: There's the planning and coordination for 24/7 childcare during travel. Then there's challenges posed by the travel itinerary. One mother said: “I have to check out of my room at 11am, I have a flight at 7pm, where can you express your milk?“ Then there's last-minute changes of events, meetings, flights and the stress that comes with that. 3. Mental toll: This often goes unseen and includes everything from trying to balance wor travel with caregiving responsibilities, and the guilt that can come with that. There's also missed feeding schedules, discarded expressed milk, emotional stress, and more. All impacting focus and overall well-being. So what can we do? Read our report on maternity in VC to find out more. Link in the comments.

👋 Journo request: It's that time of the year when we compile a list of the women in venture capital who recently became partners. I'd love your help curating the list, especially for those based in Europe. Send me their names and a link to the announcement so I can verify the date. Note: the investor must have attained the role of partner *for the first time* in 2024. I'm at rkanetkar@insider.com, so send over the nominations (or message me if you have any questions)! A new report on Venture Capital Compensation in Europe has been released by EUVC and Luis Llorens Gonzalez. The recent survey of over 350 respondents, looked into base salaries, bonuses, carry participation, and the gender composition of various VC roles. Some key takeaways: 📊 Women represent only about a third of respondents. This disparity widens at senior levels, where 80% of General Partners are male, leaving only 20% female. 💸 There's virtually no overall difference between the annual base salaries for male and female employees, except in the roles of Interns and Heads of Platform. This is due to differences in years of experience. For example, the data shows that female Heads of Platform tend to be more experienced — typically closer to 40 years old — compared to the younger, 20-something age range of males in the same role. ⚖️ The industry shows greater gender balance in junior roles but remains largely male-dominated at the senior level.
