Woman’s Trust is a charity that provides free counselling and therapy for female survivors of domestic abuse.
About us
Woman’s Trust is a specialist mental health charity that provides confidential, free, trauma-informed counselling and group therapy for women who have experienced domestic abuse. Since 1996 we have helped over 18,500 women in their recovery from domestic abuse; delivered more than 40,000 counselling sessions; and provided the equivalent of over £4.5 million in free mental health care. Established in 1996, Woman’s Trust was formed by a group of domestic abuse survivors, counsellors and women to address the absence of specialist mental health services available to this client group. Through our trained and qualified staff, we offer a range of confidential, specialist services designed specifically to support women who have experienced domestic abuse: person-centred counselling, self-development workshops and peer support groups.

As part of our work around this year's UN Women #16DaysofActivism campaign we'll be sharing the experiences of 16 different women, all all connected by the psychological trauma that stems from domestic abuse. #vawg #thisisnotok

Human resources specialist, Debbie, also joined our Board of Trustees recently. She uses her significant expertise to provide strategic advice and insight to our board, our CEO Heidi Riedel and to our staff, when needed. Fun fact - Debbie and our board chair, Niki Scordi, met back when they were both working in retail for Nicole Farhi! If you have capacity to support our work providing access to specialist mental health services to survivors of domestic abuse, either as a trustee or in another capacity, see https://lnkd.in/ebU2d8UG #vawg #TrusteesWeek #mentalhealth

It's Trustees Week - meet one of our newest trustees, Vyara Stoycheva. Vyara joined us a couple of months ago and is volunteering her expertise in finance to help support our ambitious strategy. We're aiming to reach even more women with our industry-leading, free counselling and therapy - and to affect policy change so more women around the UK have access to the mental healthcare they need to address the trauma caused by domestic abuse. We're on the lookout for more trustees to help us on our journey - if you're interested visit https://lnkd.in/ercEd9QB to find out how you can help. #trustee #charity #volunteer #vawg

We are proud to serve a diverse community of women from right across London. Along with the knowledge that we actively support hundreds of women every year to reclaim their lives and address the psychological trauma of domestic abuse, seeing women like Antonia Lee-Wilmot thrive and determined to pass it on through their own work is both humbling and fulfilling. Thank you Amja Unabashedly for being such a staunch advocate for our work and for helping us to reach even more women. #WomenSupportingWomen #MentalHealth #advocacy #vawg

Part of a reclaiming journey is considering new ways to support your wellbeing, so you can create the life you want to live and love. One way is using self-love as a means of resilience and repurposing the Strong Black Woman Archetype! Now, as much as I am very proud of my mother’s accomplishments and my own, this strong black woman narrative is the very thing that has weakened many a powerful woman, because many girls were not taught, by the elders, how to be strong and soft, powerful and self-loving, and honour their vulnerability. Check out the 🔗 below to Amja's Blog to find why self-love is fundamental to your resilience. https://lnkd.in/eHA8guzA 📷Jason Garcia Photography #contemporaryartist #healingjourney #resilience #creativecoach #blackwomen 👋🏾Hi, my name is Antonia aka Amja of Amja Unabashedly the creative wellbeing hub where LOVE, ART and INSPIRATION empower in the form of fine art, workshop facilitation and public speaking. Through our extensive and unrivalled experience, we know that domestic abuse is about more than physically violent abuse, with coercive, controlling behaviour also causing lasting emotional and psychological harm, which can affect women for years after a relationship has ended. We know and understand the different ways abuse can impact women and that everyone’s experience is different. We are not here to tell people what to do or how to feel. In many cases, the women who come to us will have had enough people telling them that already. We use a trauma-informed and person-centred approach to therapy. Our focus is less about our counsellors being ‘the experts’ and more about giving women the time and space to express their feelings and discuss their experiences, in their own words and their own time. This is true of our counselling sessions and our support groups. We provide a safe environment for women to discuss their experiences openly and without fear of being judged; to process their thoughts; and to understand, express and learn to manage their feelings and reactions with the help of our specially trained therapists. We work with women at our dedicated Women’s Centre in central London, regional London hubs and online, to meet women where they are at. #DomesticAbuse #MentalHealth #CoerciveControl #Counselling #WomansTrust

Our Head of Therapeutic Services Sona Barbosa talks about cultural barriers that women of colour face when seeking support for domestic abuse. And how culturally the concept of trauma may not even exist. #BlackHistoryMonth #SeekingSupport #DomesticAbuse #Counselling #MentalHealth #Trauma #WomenofColour
