The stereotype of a 'widow' or 'widower' is someone in their seventies or eighties. However, the sad reality is that more than 100,000 men and women in the UK are widowed under the age of 50. No matter your age, the loss of a partner is difficult to cope with. Our community at WAY is ready to help you navigate your grief. Find out more about joining WAY here: https://lnkd.in/ej8sDv6g
WAY Widowed and Young
Non-profit Organizations
We are a national UK charity that supports people who’ve been widowed before their 51st birthday
About us
WAY aims to support young widowed men and women as they adjust to life after the death of their partner – whether that was a month, a year, or ten years ago. The charity was founded in 1997 and now has more than 4,600 members across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We have a members-only area on our website where people can chat on forums in a safe and understanding environment. We also have lively social groups that meet up throughout the year – for drinks, meals out, walks and picnics. We organise weekends away for adults and families, go camping, have parties and offer an alternative social life that does not revolve around couples. All our groups are run by volunteers who are WAY members, which means everyone you meet in WAY will understand something about what you’ve been through. Despite our grief, WAY members do know how to laugh and have fun. Supporting each other is a great way to learn to live again after the trauma of watching a loved one die.

Sadly our Christmas Yarnbomb Swan display went missing from Chester during December so the decision has been made to hibernate the Ambleside Yarnbomb over the winter. Hopefully our woolly friends will be back to brighten a post box near you in the Spring. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eUXHjmZT #Swan #PeertoPeer

Over the last year, WAY member Claire has also learned to embrace her own company. “I’ve started using time on my own to relax and focus on self-care,” Claire explains. “It’s taken some time, but I’m getting there. Now, I enjoy pampering myself, cooking good food, reading a great book, watching a favourite film, or just a long dog walk in the fresh air.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eakwUT5f
