Last week, the VSL UK Repairs Team hosted an interactive two-day workshop to shape the future of our Repair & Preservation (R&P) Business Unit. The focus was on ensuring our services remain client-centric, while also leveraging both VSL's local expertise and the wider knowledge within the VSL Group. This workshop was a key milestone in aligning our strategy for the next three years. Together, we defined a clear vision for 2028 and mapped out the roadmap for success over the next 3 years. Our core repair services and collaborative approach will continue to provide lasting value to asset owners across the #Highways, #Rail, #Water, and #Marine sectors. We were excited to welcome colleagues from VSL Construction Systems - España, VSL Portugal, VSL Switzerland and VSL International Ltd. who shared valuable insights from major repair projects across Europe’s key infrastructure works. Their contributions were invaluable in strengthening our strategy and creating a more unified vision for the future. Together with all BYCN entities, we have implemented 12 fundamental H&S rules, rigorously enforced across all our construction sites worldwide. 📊 Every year, we set ambitious goals to continuously improve our H&S performance. These efforts focus on reducing accident rates and are fully inclusive, providing extensive H&S training for our teams, including workers, site supervisors, project managers and top management. 💡𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄❓ VSL UK played a key role in the construction of the Queensferry Crossing in Scotland, the world’s longest three-tower cable-stayed bridge. 🌉 Spanning 2.7 km over the River Forth, it connects Edinburgh and Fife, serving thousands of travellers daily. Our role? We designed, supplied and installed 288 stay cables (96 per tower), each composed of up to 109 strands and stretching as long as 420 meters. We provided a solution that enhances the bridge’s structural integrity and gives it its elegant design and iconic crossing pattern. ✨ To handle the challenging conditions of the Firth of Forth, including strong winds 🌬️, fluctuating temperatures 🌡️, and the constant heavy traffic that crosses the bridge daily 🚗, we equipped all cables with the VSL Friction Dampers. These dampers allow for up to 350mm of displacement, ensuring the bridge remains stable and resilient against these dynamic forces. 👷♂️ Over 22 months, our teams installed more than 21,200 strands (7,000 tons!), managing high winds and challenging working conditions at height. And the story doesn’t end there. 🙂 Today, VSL continues to support the Queensferry Crossing with innovative maintenance solutions. ⚙ Tasked by BEAR Scotland to prevent ice buildup ❄ on the stay cables, we developed an innovative cleaning system designed specifically for this challenge.
