  • Did you catch the video we’re shared on our work at Hornsea 3? The aerial footage shows our 100t drilling rig at its third Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) site. This rig had completed two out of four complex drills whilst our 60t rated rig had completed 11 out of 13 complex drilling scopes. Current progress at the time had us complete on 17,487 of the 23,356 meters of complex drilling and duct installations, delivered safely along the cable route in Norfolk. On the noncomplex HDD, a total of 71 drills has been scoped. The team had completed more than 26 drills safely. This amounts to a total drilling distance of 10,148 meters of noncomplex drilling for the main 250mm SDR11 ducts and the SDR9 90mm fibre optic ducts for these drills. Cabling works are being carried out on behalf of Ørsted, one of the world’s leading sustainable energy companies. The project, which is being delivered by VolkerFitzpatrick supported by VolkerStevin and VolkerTrenchless Solutions, will see the delivery of a 52km stretch of dual circuit DC cable.

  • At VolkerTrenchless Solutions, we firmly believe that our people are the driving force behind our future success and we want to ensure we stay at the forefront of the trenchless industry. That's why we recently sent four members of our team to the immersive, weeklong Mudschool hosted by Cebo International in the Netherlands.   This hands-on training programme is designed to deepen knowledge on the effective use and application of drilling fluids and slurries across various drilling and tunnelling operations.   The Mudschool experience combines laboratory exercises, live demonstrations, and engaging lectures from industry experts. The masterclass covers a wide array of topics, from designing drilling fluids to undertaking fluid property testing, aimed at optimising drilling performance and ultimately reducing end-user costs.

  • Back in the summer our team completed the final Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) installation on Anglian Water’s Strategic Pipeline Alliance in the East of England, after 18 months on site. The team had been working closely with the client on the project for the last four years from the initial ECI phase through to delivery. Our team has delivered over 11km of pipeline which has involved passing under numerous critical assets and dealing with a variety of geological conditions. The team also worked over 160,000 hours on site with zero accidents, which demonstrates our unwavering commitment to health and safety.

  • Did you catch our article in New Civil Engineer on the innovative techniques we used on the Anglian Water Strategic Pipeline Alliance, in the East of England. The project faced significant challenges, including fractured chalk beneath critical infrastructure and logistical hurdles, yet through innovative techniques our team delivered impressive results ahead of schedule. The team implemented several innovative measures to overcome challenges, central to which was the use of an intersect Horizontal Directional Drilling methodology. In this approach, two rigs drilled from opposite ends of the bore path, meeting in the middle to complete the pilot bore. Read the full story below. #TrenchlessEngineering #Innovation #HDD
