We are one of the largest research-intensive psychology departments in the UK, with experts in Behavioural and Cognitive Neuroscience, Developmental & Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, and Social & Applied Psychology. 91% of our research was rated world-leading or internationally excellent in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. Our undergraduate course is accredited by the British Psychological Society, and we also offer a broad range of postgraduate courses, including professional certificates and diplomas. We were ranked 16th in the Complete University Guide 2021, but most importantly our students consistently give us good marks in the NSS. A research team lead by Dr Emma Howarth are reviewing tools measuring intervention outcomes for children and families with children who have experienced domestic violence and abuse (DVA). This body of work builds upon research developing a DVA specific core outcome set. The team is asking DVA organisations to complete a survey to share insights about the measurement tools used in practice to capture program and intervention outcomes. Mariko Visserman's research featured in two separate articles this week, by CNN and The Telegraph. CNN reported that new research shows that taking a five-second break when having an argument with your significant other could help to defuse the situation.
