This year, for the first time at PLx, UK Sport introduced The Coaches Gallery, recognising the critical role that coaches play in supporting athletes across Olympic and Paralympic sports. The Coaches Gallery offered a dedicated space for coaches to come together, make new connections, share stories, and celebrate the art of coaching. Coaches and those supporting coaching were invited to contribute to the gallery by sharing a photograph which captured a moment that felt important in their work with others. During PLx, the gallery provided a welcoming space for coaches to explore and celebrate the stories behind the photographs shared. Together, we considered what the stories might say about the varied nature of the roles that coaches play, the nature of sport coaching, where it happens, and what feels important and should be celebrated in our work. Through coming together as a community, we worked together to create opportunities for open, exploratory conversation about coaching, the impact it has on us and those that we support in high-performance sport. Your contributions have enriched our understanding and appreciation of the coaching profession. The feedback from the coaches who participated was overwhelmingly positive. Reflections captured following the sessions included sentiments such as: • “It was brilliant to have a forum with other coaches; it was amazing to have the opportunity to meet other coaches that have had similar experiences.” • “The experience created wonderful conversations that supported us to unpack different aspects of performance.” • “The power of pictures — they supported us to share stories with one another in a way that felt humble and honest.” • “As a coach, I often feel isolated. This event reminded me how important it is to connect and share with others. It felt incredibly motivating and inspiring.” We extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed to the gallery and participated in our gallery experience, including our gallery curators: Bob Muir, Michael Ashford, Peter Walker and Laurie MacDonald. We look forward to continuing this celebration of coaching excellence in the future and hope to see even more coaches sharing their stories and experiences. • UK Sport and Sport England have produced a report on the diversity of boards of sporting bodies in the UK. This has been produced in partnership with Perrett Laver. The report provides a breakdown of the diversity makeup of around 128 sports boards in the UK. It also audits senior leadership teams for the first time to provide benchmarks for the future. We believe diversity and inclusion lead to stronger governance, increased innovation, and better problem-solving capabilities, which are essential to securing the future of sports organisations and ensuring that they better reflect the society they represent. By working with our partners, we can help make sport a more inclusive place for all.   Read the full report https://lnkd.in/eFhdtmDR

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees at the UK Coaching Awards! The High Performance Coach of the Year, supported by UK Sport went to Trevor Painter (Athletics). Congratulations Trevor! 🎉 Trevor’s tight knit group of athletes and coaches at M11 Track Club – which includes his wife, former Team GB 800 metres runner Jenny Meadows – have enjoyed an incredible year, winning three Olympic medals. Golden girl Keely Hodgkinson's 800m race was viewed by nine million people – the most watched event of Paris 2024 in the UK – as she became the first British female Olympic athletics champion since Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill won gold in the heptathlon in 2012. This year’s ceremony also honoured an outstanding group of winners, showcasing their transformative impact on individuals, teams, and communities. The event also paid tribute to the lifetime achievement of Snowsport England’s John Shedden, the legendary coaching chain of Katarina Johnson-Thompson and a truly exceptional moment in coaching: Paul Moseley's instrumental role in guiding Hannah Cockroft OBE, PLY, DL to gold in the T34 100m and 800m in Paris to maintain her perfect Paralympic record.
