  • We have got the UK PropTech Awards blues... Just over a week ago, we had the pleasure of bringing together PropTech innovators, Property companies, and the wider industry to celebrate the very best in the sector. With 17 incredible winners, the awards showcased the diverse talent across the sector and highlighted the transformative impact PropTech continues to have on the industry. Thank you to our partners and sponsors; Digital Planning UK Gov, UK Green Building Council (UKGBC), YAVICA, Yardi and TDS for supporting us. Take a look below at all the key highlights from the night!

  • We recently responded to the UK Government's Industrial Strategy alongside the British Property Federation and proposed a few key changes. The response highlights key focus areas in PropTech such as smart building technology, which enhances efficiency and sustainability through IoT and automation; sustainable solutions that prioritise retrofitting and green materials; construction technology using modular construction, robotics, and AI to address housing and emissions challenges and legal tech, which streamlines property transactions through blockchain and automation. The consultation stresses the importance of government support through financial incentives, clear regulations, workforce upskilling, and streamlined policies to tackle barriers such as high costs, regulatory uncertainty, skills shortages, industry conservatism, and cybersecurity concerns. As we approach 2025, we will be working closely with the BPF and government on behalf of our members, to further highlight the transformational potential of PropTech in the industry. ⏪ In case you missed it, last week we spoke with our Director of Policy Ion Fletcher to explore the Industrial Strategy and the key changes the BPF is proposing. Here's what he had to say: ❓In a nutshell, what is the 'Industrial Strategy'? 🗣️It’s the Government’s plan to boost economic growth by focusing support on a small number of “high growth potential” sectors. They want to identify barriers to investment and introduce policy to overcome them. ❓How might it affect the property industry in the UK? 🗣️If it works, then it should boost sectors like life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and digital and technologies, all of which are important occupiers for property owners. In doing so, it should bump up economic growth and productivity, which will generally support the property sector. We’ve also made a strong case for #PropTech to be treated as a high growth sector; it would be great to see targeted Government support for this. Our main concern is that the consultation is very light on the importance of “foundational” sectors that underpin the economy and high growth sectors, like property and logistics. ❓Given the importance of the built environment to achieving many of the strategy's aims, were you surprised that buildings featured so little in the current draft? 🗣️Yes – the consultation didn’t mention property at all and used the word building just once! But life sciences need labs, financial services need offices and everyone needs a strong logistics/transport network to move people and goods around the country. The industrial strategy won’t achieve its potential if it overlooks the critical role of property in providing the space and facilities that businesses need to thrive. As part of this strategy we need policy change that unblocks planning, eases development viability constraints and reforms property tax. ❓What are the BPF's next steps? 🗣️We'll be talking to Government to make sure the points in our response are taken on board and push for them to be reflected in the final industrial strategy and proposed sector plans to be announced in the spring of next year. 🔗 You can read the BPF's response to the Government's Industrial Strategy consultation here: https://lnkd.in/eBPficDs
