📣In 2021, UKGBC launched the Net Zero Whole Life Carbon Roadmap: a clear trajectory for industry and government to work towards a net zero future. Three years later, we are checking in on industry progress against the Roadmap. Our new Industry Pulse Check, comprised of five publications covering key topic areas, highlights the initiatives and standards that have emerged—or are still needed—to achieve the ambitious goals outlined in the Roadmap. 📉Our first publication covers whole life carbon measurements and agreed limits. Alex Benstead, Senior Advisor for our Advancing Net Zero Programme, said: "With the urgent need to cap global temperature increases at 1.5°C, it’s alarming that around 1 in 10 tonnes of the UK’s total greenhouse gas emissions, specifically those related to embodied carbon, remain unregulated. We need responsible government action to mandate whole life carbon measurement in building regulations and introduce legal limits on embodied carbon. 🏠According to the Environment Agency's latest report, around eight million properties in England (one in four) will be at risk of flooding by 2050. Creating a pathway for climate resilience in the built environment is crucial in ensuring that communities, homes, and infrastructure are prepared for increasingly volatile hazards. 🛣️Our UK Climate Resilience Roadmap seeks to do just that by: -Setting measurable metrics and science-based targets for climate resilience -Identifying key actions for stakeholders across the industry -Identifying key policies for to drive forwards local and national policy -Creating a pathway for UK built environment stakeholders to follow to achieve a climate resilient built environment by 2050. 📄Read our full proposal and submit your feedback by January 6th: https://lnkd.in/eJ2cWKdf #ClimateResilience #ClimateAdaptation #UKClimateResilienceRoadmap #Flooding

📣UKGBC responds to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) announcement. Earlier today, the Government published its full response to the NPPF consultation. Whilst they have updated the text to make it clear that climate change is important in both decision-making and plan-making, this still doesn’t go far enough. 💡Anna Hollyman, co-head of Policy & Places at UKGBC, said: "We propose linking the Planning Act with the Climate Change Act and the Environment Act so that climate, resilience, and nature are given weight in every planning decision. The planning system should work with nature, not against it. Protecting and integrating biodiversity and providing access to nature is essential to achieving the goal of creating climate safe, healthy and thriving communities." 🖱Read Anna's full response here: https://lnkd.in/ebujng5Y #NPPF #NationalPlanningPolicyFramework
