Here’s what he had to say about what works … Once you’ve figured out who your ideal clients are, the next question is: where on earth do you find them? As a freelancer, this was always a million-dollar question for me. And now, running Twine, I see it's a common challenge for many of our users. The good news is that in today's digital age, there are more avenues than ever to connect with potential clients. The bad news? It can feel overwhelming. Here’s what I’ve seen work both in my own freelance career and for successful freelancers on Twine: 🔗 LinkedIn: A goldmine for B2B connections. It’s where I found many of my clients when I was freelancing, even before dedicated freelance platforms became popular. Use it to showcase your professional portfolio and connect with decision-makers. 📸 Instagram: If you're in a visual field like design, photography, or art, Instagram is powerful. Many Twine freelancers have built impressive followings here. As a Twine Pro user, you can even promote your work on our Instagram channel. 🌐 Freelance Platforms: Of course, I must mention Twine. We’ve designed our platform to connect talented freelancers with quality clients. Other options like Upwork, Fiverr, or niche platforms specific to your field can also be effective. 💬 Industry-Specific Forums and Communities: Often overlooked, these are goldmines. Some of my best clients came from local tech meetups. 👥 Referrals from Past Clients: This was my favourite source of new business. There’s nothing like a satisfied client singing your praises to their network. Here’s my takeaway—I learned this the hard way: you don't need to be everywhere. Trying to maintain a presence on every platform will lead to burnout. Instead, choose 2-3 channels where your ideal clients spend their time and focus on those. For instance, I focused on LinkedIn, freelance platforms, and local tech events because that’s where my ideal clients were. This targeted approach was far more effective than spreading myself thin across numerous platforms. At Twine, we always advise freelancers to start with a focused strategy.
