Pregnancy loss is a lifetime of loss. Today, we’re launching a new campaign, to help people understand the impact of pregnancy and baby loss, and how our research is here to help more families bring their baby home. When you lose a baby in pregnancy or birth, you lose the chance to make future memories with them. Families tell us that’s one of the things they grieve most. And this isn't a small or isolated problem. The scale and impact of pregnancy complications and baby loss aren't widely known, understood or talked about. But, in a recent YouGov poll, we found half of UK adults have experienced baby loss or know someone who has. Our groundbreaking research is here to change that. We have over 30 years of pregnancy research experience and evidence to prove pregnancy and birth can be safer, and more families can bring their babies home. This is all thanks to support and donations from people like you. The sooner you act, the more lives we can save and the more families we can help to bring their babies home. Find out more and help support our work: https://bit.ly/40x4sfC

  • A spotlight on research 🔬 Since 1992, our researchers, midwives and doctors have been working hard to change maternity care and make pregnancy and birth safe - for everyone. And over the past 30+ years, thanks to your donations, we've invested over £33million into groundbreaking pregnancy research to help save more babies' lives. This includes: Transabdominal stitch to prevent premature birth. Research led by Tommy's Prof Shennan found an abdominal stitch can save babies’ lives by reducing premature birth for high-risk women and birthing people who've had a previous failed vaginal stitch. This technique could prevent around 25 preterm births in every 100 women treated. Progesterone treatment to prevent miscarriage. Researchers at our National Centre for Miscarriage Research found progesterone treatment for people with early pregnancy bleeding and a history of miscarriage could prevent 8,450 miscarriages every year. This evidence now guides national recommendations, offering hope to thousands of families. Sleeping on side to prevent stillbirth. A study at the Tommy’s Maternal and Fetal Health Research Centre showed side-sleeping in the third trimester could reduce the risk of late stillbirth by 4%, potentially preventing over 100 stillbirths each year. To everyone who has supported or donated to our work, thank you ❤️ #BabyLoss #RainbowBaby #PregnancyLoss #Miscarriage

  • 2024 has been a big year for us at Tommy's. With your help, we've achieved so much. To all our wonderful donors, fundraisers and supporters - thank you ❤️ We know this year will have been special for families who've welcomed a baby or found out they were pregnant again after the heartbreak of loss. But 2024 will have been difficult too, with many people ending the year without their much-wanted baby. As we close the door on 2024, we're thinking of the families who didn't get to bring their much-missed babies home. Please know, we're here for you, and our researchers are working tirelessly to find new tests and treatment to help prevent future heartbreak. Wishing you all a peaceful and positive 2025, from all of us at Tommy's ❤️ #BabyLoss #PrematureBirth #Miscarriage #TFMR

  • We're wishing the best of luck to TV Presenter Kelly Somers, who will be on tonight's episode of Celebrity #Mastermind. Kelly will be answering questions on general knowledge, and her specialist subject, Melanie C. She has kindly chosen us as her charity - thank you Kelly. We're so grateful ❤️ You can see how Kelly gets on tonight on BBC Two at 19.30.

  • After a smooth pregnancy, Will and Amy's noticed their daughter had stopped kicking. After investigations at the hospital, their baby Elowen was sadly stillborn at 40 weeks: "Our world ended there and then." Now, Will and Amy have chosen to share their story as part of our recent fundraising appeal, to raise vital funds for our groundbreaking research, so more families can bring their babies home. Will says sharing his story has helped him come to terms with the loss of Elowen, and makes him feel more connected to his daughter. Read more: https://bit.ly/40ruqPt

  • 100 days to go! In just 100 days time, our wonderful #TeamTommys runners will be taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon (LLHM) to raise funds for our research into pregnancy and baby loss. The LLHM is an award-winning, central London, closed-roads event that has become a staple in the running events calendar. We're proud to be the organisers of this special event, and can't wait to cheer on our wonderful fundraisers. Are you running LLHM 2025? How are you feeling about it? 👇

  • Baby loss and premature birth can be isolating, and when social media is full of happy family photos, it can feel like you're the only one going through it. But, we're here to remind you - you're not alone. In honour of all the families missing a baby this Christmas, we're sharing Harriet's poem: If Love Could Make a Baby: We know how hard this time of year can be for anyone struggling during or after pregnancy or loss. But no matter where you are in your pregnancy journey, we're here for you. Find support whenever you need it: https://bit.ly/2MmM3OQ #BabyLoss #TTC #TFMR #Stillbirth #EctopicPregnancy #Miscarriage

  • Have you seen our film on Channel 4? 👀 Our new campaign film - Projecting Life - is airing on Channel 4, thanks to the generosity of our media partners Mindshare UK, GroupM. We know the heartbreak and devastation of baby loss isn’t well understood, despite the fact half of adults in the UK are personally affected. By creating this film with the help of Special London and Biscuit Filmworks , we hope to help people, who might not have personal experience, understand the lifelong impact baby loss has. To have it aired on Channel 4 feels extra special given this time of year is difficult for many people who don't have their much-loved babies with them. It's vital more awareness is raised about the scale and impact of baby loss - an issue that has been silent for too long. • Help us raise awareness of the impact of baby loss ❤️ We know the lifelong impact pregnancy and baby loss can have. Sadly we also know this impact isn't widely understood or talked about outside of the baby loss community. In a recent YouGov poll we found half of adults (1 in 2) in the UK had experienced baby loss or knew someone who has. This shows the wide scale heartbreak parents, partners, siblings, friends and colleagues are facing every day. But, we have a 30-year research history showing how pregnancy research can prevent baby loss, save babies' lives, and make pregnancy safer - for everyone. Please know, our researchers are working tirelessly to change this so more families can bring their babies home. If you have, or know someone who has, been affected by baby loss, share this post to help raise awareness of the scale of the issue, and that our research is here to change that. Thank you ❤️ To find out more, visit: https://bit.ly/3YTVxDP If you have, or know someone who has, been affected by baby loss, please share or comment a heart below, to help us reach more families who need us 👇

  • "Better care in my pregnancy might have saved Joni’s life." Right now, there are no standardised care guidelines adopted across hospitals in the UK to support anyone who has lost a baby between 13 and 24 weeks of pregnancy. This means families will receive different care, depending on where they are in the UK. This includes families like Emily and Chris's: Emily wasn't sure if she'd be able to get pregnant, as she'd previously had a procedure to remove pre-cancerous cells from her cervix. So, when she got pregnant in 2020, she and her partner Chris were anxious and excited. But, at 21 weeks, Emily went into labour, and gave birth to their daughter Joni at home. She lived for 20 minutes before passing away. In their next pregnancy, they were supported by our team at St Thomas’ Hospital. With their help, baby George was born in 2022: https://bit.ly/400H4GQ We’re committed to raising awareness of second trimester loss, so we can change the system and improve care and outcomes – for everyone.
