  • "There aren't enough women speakers". My response to this was another great post from this year. This year I saw a lot of posts about issues finding women speakers at events....by men. So I did two things, I wrote this post, and I set up the group Women Who Speak https://lnkd.in/eMfk32_t So let's set this straight, from a woman speaker. The problem is not that there are not enough women speakers, the problem is the event: ❌ sucks ❌ does not compensate for speaking or travel ❌ is clearly just ticking a box for female speakers ❌ asks us to speak last minute ❌ doesn't fit in with our schedule ❌ has an unfair criteria process ❌ asks US to pay to speak ❌ does not respect us personally or as a group ❌ only asked us because of our social media following, or the company that we work for, with the aim of sponsorship. We're not daft. We will however speak at your events if: ✔ they are fun/engaging/relevant ✔ have great content ✔ you build a relationship with us personally or as a community ✔ you compensate fairly ✔ it's a great opportunity for us ✔ are representative The problem is often put on us as women for saying no because we are shy, not confident, but this is often not the case or reason. Whether you're a woman who speaks or would like to, or an event organiser, please join and share events, speaking opportunities and knowledge!

  • Here's one of my best posts from the last year, I don't know who made it, and yes I know it's not real but damn it's funny! And it gets the point across perfectly about how important context in data is. If you don't have the whole picture, things can be interpreted incorrectly which can cause a lot of issues in data, and in business. So when looking at data, especially for classification, use ALL the data, look a the all the rows and columns around the cells you are working with to get the full picture. Here's to a Happy New Year with less dirty data!

  • It's Christmas tip month, and one of my biggest lessons we can share with you is this... DO NOT assume you know what a company does just by looking at the name. Use the rest of the data for context, and then you might find, that as in this case, this company is not the Tinder you would assume, but Tinder Corporation Ltd and IT services company! If you're unsure, Google to double check, it could save you some awkward conversations!! Have you had any similar experiences?
