Fighting poverty in Wigan & Leigh.
About us
THE BRICK IS AN ANTI-POVERTY CHARITY OFFERING SERVICES TO PEOPLE WHO ARE AT RISK OF OR TRANSITIONING THROUGH HOMELESSNESS, FINANCIAL HARDSHIP OR CRISIS. We recognise the affliction of poverty, we recognise its impact in local neighbourhoods and on local people but we do not believe poverty and trauma is inevitable. Our vision is to provide a practical response working alongside people to help them rebuild but also to address and mitigate the causes. We know that the world is changing at an unprecedented pace, that requires a different approach to tackling the complex problems, that face our local communities today. Spanning Wigan and Leigh and operating in some of the most deprived local authority wards in England we work across five core areas: housing, personal development, food and health, financial wellbeing and training and employment. Our mission is to empower people, by making life affordable for all. We treat poverty and homelessness as a social justice issue by ensuring people are given choices and the wrap around, person centred support they need. Our role as a grass roots charity gives us an opportunity and a responsibility to speak up about these problems, to help improve the policies and systems that affect people’s lives. We will seek to regularly share evidence and stories from our work and those we work alongside, to support wider conversations around poverty, trauma and social change.

🎄✨ "On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…the reason we are here, to eliminate homelessness and poverty!!’’ ✨🎄 On our last day the festive season, the snow is falling, and we are reflecting on why we exist and why we wish we didn’t. 💔 Poverty can mean children going without basics, and it can also mean missing out on everyday fun and activities that other kids take for granted. Poverty harms health, social and emotional wellbeing, and education. It harms childhoods and futures. 💔 Poverty affects all aspects of life. It affects friendships and opportunities, creating isolation, stigma and sadness.🥲 At the Brick we believe in equity. Eliminating poverty through equity involves addressing the root causes of poverty and creating a society where everyone has a fair chance to succeed 🎉How amazing would that be?? 👏🏻 If you believe that as a society we can do better, and would like to help us to build community resilience and foster social cohesion by supporting our community development initiatives there are a number of ways you can be involved: ✅ Donate time ✅ Donate money ✅ Donate items such as unwanted gifts or stocks ✅ Raise funds ✅ Share on social media ✅ Shop at our charity shops ✅ Leave a gift in your will To everyone who already helps us, you are genuinely changing lives. Thank you 🙏🏻 There should be no one living in poverty in 2025 - we need you, join our movement for change. ❤️❤️❤️ #CommunityKindness #endingpoverty #endinghomelessness #progresswithunity #Wigan #Leigh

🎄 Too many socks for Christmas? Give them a new purpose! 🎁 Got extra new socks, hats, gloves, or other Christmas gifts you won’t use? Instead of letting them go to waste, why not donate them to help those in need? 🎄✨ "On the ninth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…our Pathfinder project and the Pathfinder GMBOP family✨🎄 Since 2022 The Brick has been running a new homelessness prevention project in Wigan and Leigh providing tailored, strength based early support to young people at risk of homelessness before they reach crisis point. In the past 3 years we have supported around 300 young people from 16+ to secure or stabilise their housing situation before addressing other needs including mental health and education or employment. 🏠 We are grateful to be part of this GM wide, innovative project in creating meaningful change for those at risk of homelessness. Prevention work is essential because homelessness causes trauma that can impact a young persons mental and physical health for life ❤️ We are grateful for the partnerships we have made along the way, and the support of Rachel O'Connor and Timothy Gerech 👏🏻 #ThankYou #CommunityKindness #endinghomelessness #charityfamily #socialimpact

🎄✨ "On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…our fundraisers, their challenges, determination and creativity!!’’ ✨🎄 HAPPY NEW YEAR 🥳 2024 was a tough year for small charities, we have sadly seen many charities closing due to escalating costs and reduced funding. Our donors and fundraisers have not only kept our doors open and our lights on, but have allowed us to increase our support services and make a difference to many more lives when people have needed us the most. ❤️ Every penny counts and is a blessing. Every fundraiser and donor is part of our Brick family. If anyone is thinking of a New Year’s Resolution then come and join us in having fun by being part of our 2025 movement to end Poverty! ‘New Beginnings’ with The Brick - join our movement for change. 💫 From marathons, to mountain treks, sponsored silences to sleep outs, cake baking to choirs, bingo to bike rides. A heartfelt thank you to you all. Be the change you want to see in 2015. 🥰 If you fancy a challenge email partners@thebrick.org.uk #ThankYou #CommunityKindness #Endingpoverty #charityfamily #fundriaisng

🎄✨ "On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…the support and generosity of Standish Energy!!’’ ✨🎄 With 13 properties across Wigan and Leigh, maintaining them can be a labour of love. Over the past 12 months Adam Prescott, Josh and Martin from Standish Energy have provided free of charge and discounted electrical works totalling £10,000 attending 37 separate jobs and call outs. 🤩 Our expertise is supporting people, and with the help of local businesses who donate their expertise, we can spend more time, doing the work we do best. ❤️Donations don’t always have to be cash donations, pro bono work is a game changer for us at The Brick and means that every penny we spend makes an even bigger impact to the people who need us. Thank you Standish Energy for your help and excellent service, we are forever grateful for your support. #thankful #charityfamily #community #weareallequal #endingpoverty
