  • What is a Whole-Life Carbon (WLC) assessment tool? 🏗️ In the push toward Net Zero, understanding the carbon impact of buildings across their entire lifecycle is more important than ever. This is where a Whole-Life Carbon (WLC) Assessment Tool comes in. A WLC assessment tool allows architects, developers, and construction teams to measure carbon emissions from cradle to grave—covering both: 🔹 Embodied Carbon: Emissions from materials, construction, and demolition. 🔹 Operational Carbon: Emissions from energy use during the building’s life. By using a WLC tool like VERT, professionals can: ✅ Model and track emissions across all stages of a building’s lifecycle. ✅ Test various design and material options to minimise carbon impact. ✅ Explore retrofit strategies to reduce embodied carbon. ✅ Align projects with regulatory requirements and Net Zero goals. Whole Life Carbon tools provide the data-driven insights needed to make sustainable design choices—whether you’re planning a new build or retrofitting an existing structure. Want to know more about how VERT can help you manage WLC? Let’s connect and discuss how we can reduce carbon emissions in the built environment. 🌱 #vert #sustainability #wholelifecarbon #SustainableDesign #SustainabilityAssessment #lowcarbonfuture

  • Retrofit is key to a sustainable future. 🏢🌍 Since 80% of the buildings that will be in use by 2050 are already built, retrofitting our existing building stock is essential for reducing carbon emissions and achieving Net Zero targets. While new builds tend to get the spotlight, the real climate impact lies in transforming the buildings we already have. Here's why retrofit is crucial: 🔹 Lower Embodied Carbon By reusing and upgrading existing structures, we avoid the significant emissions associated with demolishing buildings and producing new materials. 🔹 Improved Energy Efficiency Retrofit projects upgrade older buildings with modern technologies, reducing energy demand and cutting operational carbon. 🔹 Cost-Effective Retrofit can often be more economical than building from scratch while offering substantial sustainability benefits. 🔹 Faster Delivery Retrofitting can often be quicker than a new build, with reduced construction programs leading to faster project delivery. 🔹 Preserves Heritage Many older buildings have historical or architectural value. Retrofit allows us to modernize these spaces while maintaining their cultural significance. At VERT, we recognize that retrofit is a vital part of the journey to Net Zero. Our tool helps developers and architects model whole-life carbon and explore retrofit options, ensuring projects are sustainable, cost-efficient, and aligned with environmental goals. Retrofit isn’t just an option; it’s a necessity. Let’s reduce, reuse, and rethink our approach to the built environment. 🌱 #vert #sustainability #wholelifecarbon #SustainableDesign #SustainabilityAssessment #lowcarbonfuture #retrofit

  • 👻 Ghost Buildings: Transforming Legacy into Sustainability 🎃 As Halloween approaches, let's reflect on the "ghosts" of our built environment—legacy buildings that often haunt us with high operational emissions. While these structures may have poor performance, they come with a unique advantage: locked-in embodied carbon. This represents a significant resource that can be utilised rather than discarded. Instead of demolishing these buildings, we have the opportunity to enhance their efficiency and reduce ongoing emissions, often fueled by fossil energy sources. Through retrofitting, we can breathe new life into these spaces while making the most of the carbon investment already embedded in their materials. At VERT, we empower architects and developers to: ✅ Identify inefficiencies in existing buildings. ✅ Plan retrofits that improve energy performance and reduce operational and embodied carbon. ✅ Future-proof these structures for generations to come. Let’s turn the haunting legacy of high emissions into a sustainable future. 🌏 Together, we can make a difference!

  • The importance of Whole Life Carbon (WLC) in the built environment. 🏗️ Did you know that 39% of global carbon emissions come from buildings? As the climate crisis intensifies, addressing carbon emissions across a building's entire lifecycle, not just operational, is crucial. This is where Whole Life Carbon (WLC) comes into play. 🌍 WLC covers both embodied carbon (emissions from materials, construction, and demolition) and operational carbon (energy use during a building’s life). A building's carbon footprint isn't just about energy efficiency; it’s about understanding the impact from cradle to grave. At VERT, we help architects, developers, and construction teams model and manage these emissions across new builds and retrofits. Our platform empowers you to: ✅ Make data-driven design choices. ✅ Test various materials and systems for their carbon impact. ✅ Create retrofit options that align with Net Zero goals. By integrating VERT into your projects, you can deliver on sustainability commitments, reduce emissions, and future-proof your developments. Let’s rethink how we design, build, and operate buildings, and collaborate for a low-carbon future. 🌱 #vert #sustainability #wholelifecarbon #SustainableDesign #SustainabilityAssessment #lowcarbonfuture
