About us
The Garden of Eva makes pickles, relishes, and jams from all over the world, starting with those that the founder, Eva, made with her American, Southern mother, Tina. Our pickles, relishes, and jams are elegant, packed with flavour, and will move from the side to the centre of your plate! Our handcrafted, pickled watermelon rind holds 2 Great Taste stars and our chili-watermelon jam was named by Whole Foods Market UK's 2024 Food and Drink Trends for complex heat. Our chow chow -- which is a pickled relish -- was used by Honest Burgers for one of its most successful monthly specials. They made a decadent New Orleans fried chicken sandwich, crowned with our relish.

This past year was one of high highs and really low lows. Building a food brand isn’t all rainbows and butterflies, at least not for The Garden of Eva. Broken jars that delayed an in-store launch and made GOE lose prime real estate in the walkway (we did get it months later, though!), losing a manufacturer, needing to adjust shipping and handling prices, etc. - all these happened. Quitting looked pretty attractive - more than once. Yet GOE persevered. On the flip side, there were some really encouraging moments: launching into Selfridges; being approached by several independent shops wanting to stock our products; launching onto Yumbles; being named one of the UK’s 25 rising stars in food and drink; very successful holiday markets; more than doubling sales from 2023; good PR; and landing some big wins that will be revealed in 2025. Challenges won’t disappear but there is more resilience to meet them. Opportunities will come and there will be readiness to seize them.

🌟Empowering Conversations for Change🌟 We are thrilled to share that our founder, Eva Thorne —along with 11 other food and drink business founders — participated in a roundtable with several buyers from a major supermarket. This incredible event, organized by BUY WOMEN BUILT, allowed for an honest and open exchange about the barriers that small, challenger brands face when engaging with large supermarkets. Kudos to the buyers for asking for this kind of discussion and working towards meaningful solutions! A huge thank you to BWB for fostering such an amazing community and providing this platform for valuable dialogue. #BuyWomenBuilt #WomenInBusiness #SupportSmallBusiness #FoodIndustry #Entrepreneurship #SmallBrands #InclusiveGrowth #Empowerment #Sustainability #CommunitySupport #Innovation #LinkedInCommunity #Networking #Collaboration #BusinessGrowth

Absolutely delighted! 🌟 **The Rich History of Chow Chow** 🌟 Our prize-winning chow chow has a fascinating history. This condiment has deep roots that spans cultures and centuries. Originally believed to have been brought to America by Chinese railroad workers in the 19th century, chow chow has since become a beloved staple in Southern American cuisine. The name "chow chow" is thought to derive from the Mandarin term "cha," meaning "mixed," which perfectly captures its essence. This versatile relish typically combines a variety of pickled vegetables like cabbage, peppers, onions, and tomatoes, seasoned with warm spices such as mustard seed, allspice, celery seed, and vinegar. The result is a tangy and sweet relish that can elevate any dish. Throughout its history, chow chow has adapted to regional tastes and ingredients, leading to a diverse range of recipes. In the Southern United States, it is often served with barbecue, beans, and greens, while in the Northern regions, it may accompany meats and sandwiches. At The Garden of Eva, we're proud to carry on this delicious tradition with our award-winning American Southern Chow Chow, which our founder, Eva, grew up making with her Virginia-born mother, Tina. The Thornes ate chow chow on greens, beans, and burgers. Our British fans love it with cheese and charcuterie. Chow chow is both delicious and versatile! #ChowChowHistory #FoodHeritage #CulinaryTradition #GardenOfEva #FoodInnovation #GourmetCondiments
