  • While you're picking up your festive essentials, keep an eye out for the Carbon Trust product carbon footprint label on many everyday products. In a time when environmental claims can be confusing and greenwashing continues, our label provides independent verification that helps you make informed choices. ITV News interviewed the Carbon Trust's Tiphaine Aries about how looking for our label helps you choose products with a lower carbon impact and identify companies that are committed to reducing their impact and taking climate action. • Offshore wind is a low carbon source of electricity however every industry must explore pathways to Net Zero and identify opportunities to cut emissions across its lifecycle.    This new report from the Sustainability Joint Industry Programme (SUS JIP) analyses the existing decarbonisation pathways across key sectors that will contribute to decarbonising offshore wind, including steel, copper and vessel fuels. The report demonstrates that combined efforts across these pathways could achieve carbon emission reductions of 90% by 2050.   By leveraging insights from industry partners, it also provides actionable steps to decarbonise materials and activities in wind farm development. • Did you know that each year, we throw away so much e-waste that we could fill enough waste lorries to wrap around Earth’s equator? As awareness grows about the environmental impact of this waste, more consumers are rethinking their choices – turning to second-hand or refurbished devices. But is it as simple as ‘second-hand is best’? Our expert Matt Anderson explores how the tech industry and consumers can work together to tackle e-waste and make smarter purchasing decisions ⬇️

Climate action and carbon accounting expert on a mission: speed up the journey to net zero

If you know me, you know I love tech. Over the last five years I've dived head first into the world of refurbished tech when considering a new piece of kit or a replacement. From smartphones, to laptops, to handheld gaming consoles, I can genuinely say that I've had excellent experiences going with refurbished. I wrote this article for The Carbon Trust where I explore how we can harness consumer purchasing power to reduce the carbon impact of our smartphones through smart choices.

  • We were thrilled to co-host an event earlier this week with BSI exploring the evolving ISO Net Zero Standard and its impact on advising businesses on their decarbonisation journeys. Together with other Net Zero service providers, we tackled shared challenges and opportunities in Net Zero governance. Key insights included: 🌍 How consequential leveraging the international standards system and quality infrastructure will be for Net Zero governance, in terms of increased accountability for companies, and because of the connection between standards, trade, and regulation 🏢 The unique role consultancies play in driving best practices and adoption of the upcoming ISO standard 🌱 The importance of engaging in Net Zero governance, such as participating in the ISO Net Zero Standard development process as the Carbon Trust is, to derisk advice, especially on emerging topics like carbon dioxide removals 💡 The role the Carbon Trust is playing in providing advice to clients aligned to the ISO Net Zero Guidelines, which will form the foundation of the ISO standard   Special thanks to our external speakers Shana Gallagher for explaining how the ISO Net Zero Standard that is currently in development will change how Net Zero is governed globally, and to John Lang for walking everyone through the Net Zero 'conveyor belt' model. And thanks to our experts Imogen Catterall, Sarah Jardine, and John Kazer for sharing their insights.
