Another damp Sunday, another day of dealing with 💩 if you want to go surfing or swimming in the south, south west or Wales. There are some spots that are green, so if you haven't downloaded our Safer Seas and River Service App please do. Meanwhile, if like us, you do not believe the public should have to bail out failing water companies, sign our petition here - https://lnkd.in/e9xxFB2R #endsewagepollution #sickofsewage #sewage #saveourseas #saveourrivers #oceanactivists #riverpollution

About us
Surfers Against Sewage is a national marine conservation and campaigning charity that inspires, unites and empowers communities to take action to protect the ocean and our blue spaces. Home to the Million Mile Clean, Plastic Free Communities, Plastic Free Schools and the Safer Seas & Rivers Service. Our Campaigns Water Quality - Sewage and agricultural pollution still plague the rivers and ocean. We are calling for an end to sewage pollution to guarantee safe seas, all year round. Our ambition is to end sewage discharges into UK bathing waters by 2030. Ocean & Climate - To reverse the ocean and climate crisis, we need urgent and drastic reduction in carbon dioxide emissions as well as the rapid embracing of nature-based solutions to limit carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere. Our ambition is for the UK to be net-zero by 2030. Ocean Recovery - The UK’s seas host some of the most biodiverse life in the world. However, due to the increasing pressure from human activities, marine biodiversity has decreased dramatically. Our ambition is for 30% of the ocean and all UK Marine Protected Areas to be highly protected by 2030. Plastic Pollution - To solve the plastic pollution crisis, we need to reduce the production and consumption of non-essential single-use, throwaway and polluting plastic, and build a circular economy that ensures plastics are designed to be reused and repaired. Our ambition is to end single-use plastic pollution on UK beaches by 2030.

@bluewilsonartist has been supporting SAS over the past few years by walking the whole of the UK coastline in her spare time, on top of her day job! She has just spent the last week in the South West on her latest leg, here are some highlights. As always if you'd like to take a challenge yourself, big or small, head to our community fundraising section on the SAS website.

Our community is the beating heart of our fundraising activities. Blue Wilson - Blue has been supporting SAS over the past few years by walking the whole of the UK coastline in her spare time, on top of her day job, and has so far walked over 3,230 miles of the coast path, accrued many blisters, and raised over £2,390 for SAS. 🚶♀️ GB row - Adam, Patrick, Joseph, Hannah, Daisy and Lia took on the almighty challenge of rowing round the whole of Great Britain this summer. Not only did they raise over a whopping £8,000 for SAS, but they also achieved a new world record with their row, as the first mixed & unsupported crew to complete mega challenge! 👏 Mike Davies - Mike challenged himself to swim round the Roseland Peninsula – a 12km swim – in August. Multiple jellyfish encounters, an inquisitive seal, and a remined throughout the whole swim as to the importance of fighting for clean waters, Mike managed to raise a whopping £2,300 ! 🐟 Julie’s Festive Fitness Fundraiser - Julie, a long-term supporter of SAS, hosted a fantastically festive fitness fundraiser in December, raising over £182 for SAS through the event and a raffle on the day. 🎄 Jake and Rachel’s Big Green Hike in April - Jake and Rachel took on the Big Green Hike in April, trekking 20 miles along the Pennine way. Whilst navigating the very wet and muddy fields along the trek, they managed to raise an incredible £1,381.96 for SAS 👏 Eco Worriers - The Eco Warriors at St Christopher’s MAT have been busy working on their Plastic Free Schools accreditation, and decided to host a bake sale to go one step further in supporting our ocean-saving work, managing to raise £208.67 ! The cakes must have been mighty tasty 😋 If you'd like to fundraise for us in 2025 you can find out more on our website.

Just before Christmas we launched The Ripple Effect, our first citizen science report. It is part of our campaign to empower local communities to take monitoring water quality into their own hands, so we can all build up an accurate picture of pollution in our inland and coastal waters.
