Children with #SEND are now the focus of the culture war & the budget debate—Labour must tread carefully. SEND parent John Harris warns politicians picking a fight with us would be well advised to bear in mind our “resilience and spirit.” https://lnkd.in/eWaDiiMu

This is what we’re up against: “The very people making indefensible SEND decisions [for EHCPs] are now advising central government that it’s the Tribunal itself that’s the problem. Not them. And, shockingly, central government is listening” https://lnkd.in/eE-xQd_W
55% rise in 2024 SEND Tribunal appeals. LAs’ 1.3% success rate cost £153m. The cost to families? Incalculable - Special Needs Jungle

Keir Starmer looks at sweeping reforms to special education needs. Paywalled FT article but you can read it here: https://archive.is/Pw2eP It's misinformed and ignorant, referring to "statements" and “lighter” SEND needs "such as ADHD and autism". Again, it's NOT the law, it's NOT the children, it's the people "running" the system who've caused the crisis. They're why early intervention and in-school support is dire. Fix them first and EHCPs will fall. Slashing disabled children's rights is not dealing with the issue, it's telling families their children are not important. Meanwhile, this is what Kir Starmer told the Liaison committee last week: https://lnkd.in/ey88hRep (Q53 and in image below)
