Sooner Safer Happier (BVSSH)
Business Consulting and Services
Enabling organisations to achieve better outcomes and a more humane world of work.
About us
We are a global network of deeply experienced practitioners – experts and thought leaders in the field of business agility with shared values and beliefs. We observe that improving ways of working implies cultural change (i.e., values and beliefs) and that side-by-side coaching is as key to success as consulting on organisational and process change. We are coaches and we are consultants. Applying the principle of continuous learning from across industries we describe patterns and anti-patterns for business agility and enable sharing of these through our book, blog and free to attend community events – alongside premium coaching, consulting and training services. As a business we pursue a cross-sector, cross-border, multi-generational impact. We drink our own champagne and measure progress based on case studies of improved BVSSH outcomes that have been created and shared. We are committed to social and environmental improvement and operate a tree planting programme to offset our carbon footprint by a factor of x10. We actively support social improvement through our work with Treesisters and through direct outreach with charities to help improve their ways of working.

What is an experiment? How confusing the word ‘experiment’ can be for people new to outcome and hypothesis-based planning! An experiment is: * Work conducted to support an outcome * Testing a small hypothesis/unknown * With results measured rather than based upon actions having been completed. * Big enough to contain a number of user stories, small enough to compete quickly * Sometimes referred to in agile tooling as ‘epic’ Ready to align your experiments with impactful outcomes? Are you seeking to accelerate the flow of work in your organisation? In organisations where there hasn't been a focus on flow optimisation, it is normal for work to be waiting >90% of the time. Flow mapping is an incredibly useful technique to understand what are the sources of delay; which parts of the process are blocked and when. So often it is the handoff between teams where invisible delays can arise. The previous team feels that they're done and the next team feel like they haven't yet started - so all is well, right? And yet, the work is still waiting. Introduce yourself to flow mapping and start to understand what options you have to accelerate. With over 2 years leading Sooner Safer Happier (BVSSH) in Asia-Pacific, it has been such a humbling experience the past few weeks reflecting back on the year that has passed. 🤝 Grateful to Mark Payne, Anthony Christensen, Zsolt Berend, Jonathan Smart, Myles Ogilvie, and our latest new joiner Ruma Dak (she/her). 💖 Grateful to our Community and Clients. Without the network, we would not be able to learn together and make an impact. This enables us to do what we love doing! Helping leaders and organisations deliver better outcomes and create a more humane world of work. When asked how 'big' we are, people are often surprised to hear that we are a core team of 4 in Asia-Pacific. We have a set of globally tested patterns that we use to tailor to suit the context that we are working within. We have a collective experience that allows us to accelerate delivery of outcomes. We have reference case studies that we can point to. And to amplify our impact, we have 2,164 BVSSH community members, 38 SSH Advocates, 36 EALN'ers, and great Partners. It's more about the scale of impact than the number of people! As someone who comes from the Big4, this is part of challenging the traditional consulting business model. Proud of what we have achieved in 2024. And ready for 2025! #BVSSH #betteroutcomes #community #strategytoexecution

Thank you Martin Foster, the Business Agility Institute and its contributors for the latest Business Agility report. It was an honour to facilitate Martin's presention of the report at the Sooner Safer Happier (BVSSH) meetup. The key insights from the 2024 Business Agility Report, as presented by Martin Foster, are: High-Performing Organizations: * Formal Change Programs: These organizations tend to have formal change programs driven by their leadership (board or C-suite). This indicates that top-down support and a structured approach to change are crucial for success. * Organization-Wide Change: Rather than focusing on isolated departments or teams, high performers implement changes across the entire organization or multiple business units. This suggests that a holistic approach to agility is more effective. * Key Predictive Indicators: Three capabilities stand out as strong predictors of high performance: 1. Dynamic Funding: The ability to shift funding in response to market changes or new opportunities. 2. Diverse Ideas: The ability to gather and integrate ideas from all levels of the organization. 3. Empowered Accountability: Empowering individuals and teams to make decisions while holding them accountable.

"A game is a series of interesting choices" - Sid Meier. Indeed we made many quick decisions during today's Lean Portfolio Game, exploring the "game" of strategic trade-offs to maximize value and minimize waste within a clear set of constraints. A huge thank you to Mark Williams and Kate Mulligan from Sooner Safer Happier (BVSSH) for delivering such an inspiring simulation and fostering insightful discussions with engaged participants in a fantastic location! Grateful that Clemens Inninger and I got this opportunity.

It was amazing to see some of the SSH Advocates get together last week in what was Sir Richard Arkwright’s London home in the late 1770s. The sessions we had were full of collaboration and innovation and it was so rewarding to see this community coming together. Here's to more sessions next year! If you want to know more about the SSH Advocate program click the link in the comments. #BVSSH
