Our very own Smith+Nephew Christmas Elves! A team of our employees from Wrocław recently got involved in a toy gifting initiative at the local Congregation of the Sisters of St. Elizabeth. Led by Sister Maristella, our team put together Christmas Day gift packages for children in poverty or other difficult family situations. Toys, clothing, and other presents based on the young recipients’ wish lists were purchased and gift wrapped by our team, ready for distribution by the Sisters. Smith+Nephew definitely showed up at the St. Jude Memphis Marathon! 22,000 runners and 40,000 spectators descended on the city to raise money for families with children being treated for cancer at the local St. Jude’s hospital, helping them with costs for treatment, travel, housing and food. Not only did a mighty team of our employees run the event, contributing to the $16 million raised, but the first runner to cross the finish line was Johanna Wistokat, our Global Marketing Manager for Hips, completing the marathon in under 3 hours – impressive! Delivering on our purpose of Life Unlimited includes taking action to support wellbeing in our communities. Our Wound team in Hull, some of whom are veterans, recently volunteered in a garden clear-up with Hull 4 Heroes, a charity that offers emotional and practical support to the Armed Forces Community. The garden forms part of a house recently purchased as a place of rest and recreation for veterans who are transitioning from military to civilian life. Our employees receive 8 hours of paid volunteering leave every year to donate to a local cause, supporting access to health services, education, the environment, or another community need.
