Nearly a week after the Northumberland Line opened for passenger services, SLC's father and son duo from the North East, who supported the project, talk about why this project has meant so much to them. 🚉 Being both rail specialists in construction management, Michael and Matthew had actually worked together previously on about six projects across the country. 👨👩👧👦 However, Northumberland County Council's project has brought them both back home to build a lasting legacy that will benefit their friends, family and community for generations to come. “The project is very special in many ways,” said Matthew. “This isn’t just any project far away from home; it’s building something for our local community. It’s also been a rare opportunity to come home to our families each evening." 🏗️ Michael, who has been working on rail projects for nearly 50 years, has never worked on home turf before, so it has been very unique. “It’s incredible to work on something so close to home, and we’re proud to be part of it.” #northumberlandline Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/g8YkneeU

“Railways are a means to an end and are important in taking cars off the road, promoting local economies and making people’s lives better.” 🚉 Andrew Helm talks about this in our 'How Can We Help' video series. He also speaks about the win-win nature of linking housing development and transport and how we're helping to do this. Watch more 'How Can We Help' videos here: https://lnkd.in/ewD5mbqp

Passenger services returned to the Northumberland Line yesterday for the first time in over 60 years, marking a historic moment for the region and the UK rail industry. 🥳 ➡️ We have worked closely with Northumberland County Council and AECOM throughout the development of the business cases, design, delivery strategy and rail industry engagement – embedding a multi-disciplined team to lead the project management of the stations and structures packages, integrating with industry partners. ➡️ We’re very proud to be involved in this amazing programme, which will bring about transformational change for the region it serves - and with four more stations set to open next year, the hard work continues. ➡️ Thank you to all our people for their hard work on this project and a big congratulations to everyone else involved too. Thanks to Global Centre Of Rail Excellence for our recent visit this week. This facility will have an immense positive impact on both innovation in the rail sector and rebuilding prosperity in the local community. We're proud to be working with you.
It was great to welcome Paul Fountaine FIET and Nathan Campsall FICE from SLC Rail to the Global Centre Of Rail Excellence earlier this week. The pair met with GCRE Chief Executive Simon Jones and then were taken on a tour of the 700-hectare site by Director of Implementation Robert Thompson. SLC are a highly respected name in the rail industry and have a wealth of experience and expertise across a wide variety of environments and disciplines. It was great to show them the progress we are making at GCRE and to discuss the significant opportunities that the facility will open up for creative research, testing and innovation in UK and international rail. #GCRE #GlobalCentreOfRailExcellence #RailInnovation

🎉 We've successfully passed our Railway Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme (RISQS) audit for another year. 🚉 RISQS is the certifying body for any suppliers working throughout the UK rail industry. It is a key accreditation which allows qualified companies (like us) to work on the rail infrastructure. 💚 This certification reflects our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, sustainability and compliance across all our business.

Thanks to everyone who came to our Generation Rail Women in Rail event held in our offices last night. 🚉 Different generation groups were set the task of coming up with an idea to enhance the overall passenger experience for rail passengers, particularly looking at ways to make the railway more accessible and inclusive for all. 🎤 Ideas were pitched to our Generation Rail Panel and the winning idea was a group consisting of mixed age generations, showing the importance of age diversity in creative problem solving. 👏 Thanks to our panel Rose Rees MBE, Harry Burr, Luke Bodin and Sam Uren CEng FICE. Also thanks to Ian Baxter for his presentation on age diversity and Jade M. and Zara Farooq for organising the event.
