It can happen a lot at this time of year - scammers saying they can help people on universal credit get DWP loans. Three ways to guard against scams. 1. Never give personal details to someone who calls or messages. 2. People should only apply for universal credit loans through their online universal credit accounts, or by calling the UC helpline, or at the jobcentre. 3. People should never respond to anyone who claims they can get a UC loan or advance on their behalf. Don't click on links for companies which say that. If you're worried about someone being scammed find out about applying safely for extra universal credit money help here: https://shltr.org.uk/kfzLt

Our analysis has uncovered the shocking prevalence of child homelessness this Christmas with more than 56,000 primary school children homeless in England - or one in 84. > Newham is the worst affected area with the equivalent of 61 children – or one in nine - homeless in every school – up by 10% since 2022. > Outside of London, Luton comes out worst, with the equivalent of 20 children homeless in every school - up 16% during the same period. > Outside of the south of England, Birmingham is highest, with the equivalent of 15 children homeless in every school - up 28%. 👀 https://lnkd.in/evv8YMHQ To give children a chance to succeed, the government must end the nightmare of child homelessness by building a new generation of decent social rent homes. Until then, we need your support to be there for families like Fauzia’s 👇 Donate to our urgent winter appeal: https://shltr.org.uk/afv2w

We set up a voicemail for renters to share their experiences. The results were shocking 😬 From being too scared of eviction to ask for repairs, to landlords letting themselves in unannounced, the system is stacked against private tenants. The Renters’ Right Bill must rebalance the scales by: ⭐ Introducing fair limits to in rent increases and lengthen the protected period so that a landlord cannot evict within the first two years of a tenancy. ⭐ Limiting the amount of rent in advance a landlord can ask for, and restricting when a guarantor can be requested, which both lock many renters out ⭐ Setting up a landlord register that gives tenants and councils the tools to hold rogue landlords to account

We've been working together with Marks and Spencer for an incredible 20 years. To mark this special anniversary, we teamed up this festive season to share the stories of just some of the millions of people who are experiencing the housing emergency in England. ☎️ The money raised from this partnership provides vital funds for our free emergency helpline, helping us support families experiencing unfit and unsafe housing and homelessness. Thank you to M&S for all the support they have given over the years.

‼️ BREAKING: Homelessness has risen by 14% in just one year. Our new research shows at least 354,000 people are now homeless in England, up by over 44,000 in a year. This figure includes 161,500 children, who will spend this winter without a home. Shelter's Polly Neate CBE FAcSS LLD(hc) has said the causes are clear, while the consequences are devastating. ‘Across England, extortionate private rents combined with a dire lack of genuinely affordable social homes is trapping more and more people in homelessness. ‘Parents are spending sleepless nights worrying about their children growing up in cramped and often damaging temporary accommodation, as weeks and months turn into years without somewhere secure for them to call home.’ 📰 Read more: https://shltr.org.uk/PfbzP With your help we can campaign for the long-term solution – building social homes, but right now we need your support so we can be there for people facing homelessness. ❤️ Support our urgent winter appeal: https://shltr.org.uk/afv2w
