Updates

  • At Sheffield Mencap and Gateway, our vision is that all people with a learning disability and their carers in Sheffield are valued, included and respected so they can live fair, full and happy lives. We are looking for people who share this vision to join our Board of Trustees and help steer our organisation to deliver a better future for the people we support. We want our board to truly reflect and understand the diverse communities that we serve and welcome applications from people with a range of backgrounds, skills and experiences. As a Trustee, you will work as part of a team to ensure we deliver our vision effectively and in compliance with statutory requirements. Trustees are collectively responsible for the governance and strategic direction of the charity, overseeing financial health, risk management, and ensuring the charity acts in the best interests of its beneficiaries. Trustees generally commit 4 hours each month to the role, including evening meetings and visits to the centre. There is a buddying system to support all new trustees. Benefits: * Being able to contribute to the lives of those with a learning disability and autistic people tin Sheffield. * First-hand experience and contribution to the decision making of a local charity. * Opportunities to take part in fun social activities and celebrate the achievements of the charity's members. * Practical, desirable experience that can enhance your skills and career portfolio. For more information or an informal chat about becoming a Trustee, please contact our Volunteering Manager Laura Zielosko on 01142 767757 or at volunteering@sheffieldmencap.org.uk

Committed to driving strategic change to enhance access to services for individuals with learning disabilities and autistic people.

Earlier this year, my team and I filmed a series of short clips to support our ongoing commitment to making healthcare accessible for individuals with learning disabilities and autism. We are proud to continue offering free training and advice to Sheffield healthcare professionals and those working within healthcare settings, helping them improve and implement best practices. Thanks to funding we have from our Integrated Care Board. This clip features the incredible Emma Ferguson, a Learning Disability Nurse. Take just a minute and a half to watch—it's definitely worth your time! Don’t just take our word for it, though—it's already had 42,000 views!
