About us
Scottish Apprenticeships demonstrate and promote the benefits work-based learning brings to businesses, individuals and the Scottish economy. Apprenticeship jobs provide people with the chance to work, learn and earn to get the skills employers want. Apprenticeships provide employers with the critical skills to adapt, sustain and strengthen their business. Skills Development Scotland administers Scottish Apprenticeships on behalf of Scottish Government, which incorporates Foundation Apprenticeships, Modern Apprenticeships and Graduate Apprenticeships.

A Graduate Apprenticeship in Social Work is being developed in a national drive to improve access into careers in the sector and support skills demand. There are 10,914 registered social workers in Scotland and the industry reports that there is an existing talent gap that shows an overall vacancy rate of 9.3%. Skills Development Scotland and the Scottish Social Services Council will work with employers, trade unions and professional bodies to develop the apprenticeship, with the aim for the University of the West of Scotland to deliver a pilot in academic year 2025/26.
