As we travel into a new year, we often put ourselves under pressure to achieve unrealistic and unachievable goals, and we sometimes take negativity into a new year. What does 2025 mean for you? What will you leave in 2024? What will you take into 2025 and build on? What dreams will you turn into reality? Whatever you choose we really do hope your dreams come true. David Reece and I want to take this opportunity of wishing you all a bright new year full of hope and kindness. For those that have supported us personally or through School of Thought (Automotive) we want to thankyou from the bottom of our hearts. This was a dream, that we wrote down, that became a reality, and we couldn't have done it on our own. Thankyou. Why not read through our latest blog 👇

At School of Thought (Automotive) we champion work experience as a fantastic route into a career in Automotive, whether this is an internship, apprenticeship or a job. Work experience is AWEsome because it gives young people a taste of what we have to offer, opportunities to try out a role or roles before making a decision and a chance to get to know about each other. This route can help prevent people leaving because they don't like the culture, the role or the people they work with, they already have learned experience so the chance is minimised. This is often mentioned by employers why they don't want to employ young people. Charlie Stevens works for our amazing partner SATA, and he embarked on work experience and 6 years on he is still loving it. Thankyou Charlie for sharing your journey with us. AWE25 is on the horizon so if you want to register your workplace for work experience please get in touch with dave@ready4work.uk or julie@ready4work.uk or register for free on our website https://lnkd.in/edfFhk_C #AWE24 #AWE25 #schoolofthough4

At School of Thought (Automotive) we will always be out there promoting all the opportunities our great industry has to offer to the millions of young people looking for a chance of a career, so no apologies for keeping posts about this very important subject front and centre. We are now getting more and more requests in schools about work experience in 2025, We are actually talking to one Mum in Scotland today with a son who is car mad looking for that one chance and we're getting more calls every day. So here we go. If you are anywhere in the UK with an independent garage, independent bodyshop, garage group, bodyshop group, dealer group, commercial vehicle dealer, vehicle manufacturer, parts supplier, bodyshop supplier, insurance company, accident management company, consumables supplier, oil company, equipment supplier, training provider or any of the other businesses in the industry you can be making a difference to the industry you're in that has these huge problems, the Generation Gap and Skills shortage, and the first step is absolutely free to every business. Just enrol FREE on our School of Thought (Automotive) portal at https://lnkd.in/d7zP2TNf and start the ball rolling. Young people in year 10 and 11 and as importantly their parents are looking for placements for there children something you and I would do every day if they were ours. We get requests when we attend careers fairs and huge family events such as The British Motorshow which means there are thousands of young people wanting to be part of our industry so together we can do something about it. With more companies attending careers fairs from different industries who are all fishing in the same talent pool, we have to get in there first or we will lose these young people to companies who make more of an effort. Our first step is to make it easy for them to find information about the industry and easy to find those companies in their area that are offering them a chance, and you could be one of them. The School of Thought (Automotive) website is the place they can do this and you could be the company they chose. Two people benefit from what we do. You and the young person that finds you. If you want to know more, you can find information on our website or I'm more than happy for you to email me at dave@ready4work.uk

Are Careers Fairs in Schools worth attending? This a question we get asked constantly. Well let me tell you about my morning with pupils at Friesland School in Nottinghamshire. We will be forwarding 15 requests for Apprenticeships to our partners Sandicliffe from the event. At School of Thought (Automotive) we can help companies to engage with the talent of the future. Check us out at https://lnkd.in/dY7nA9t9 If more companies did just a little we would soon bridge the generation and skills gaps.

  • Our partners are amazing and we wouldn't have come so far as we have without their support so today we give a big shout out to the team at The British Motor Show who are helping with our 2025 branding and we're looking forward to seeing what it looks like. Our mission is a simple one and that's to get the message out to the millions of young people searching for direction when they are looking for their first career. These young people have to make some really grown up decisions when they get to years 10 & 11 and it's our job to give them as much help and guidance as we can, including what subjects and grades they should aim for if they are looking at apprenticeships, what they should include on their CV to make them stand out, which college is delivering automotive courses or direct them to companies offering Work Experience. Our AWE24 programme for getting more companies to embrace Work Experience is gathering pace but not as fast as we need, so it doesn't matter whether you repair vehicle of all shapes and sizes or operate in the supply chain by doing your bit you can relieve the stress on young people and their families who will already be looking for placements for their children during the new school year. By doing this it's another way of relieving the stress families are under looking after their kids and where better than in our industry. As an industry we are in a place to make a difference to so many young peoples lives just by connecting with them. To date we have met thousands of these youngsters and will continue to meet even more now and into the future. Thanks to all our Partners, Ambassadors and supporters and so long as we have them we will keep doing what we do for all sectors of the industry. If you think you can help why not get in touch and influence the future of our industry. You could also check out our website which will give you even more information. Contact us direct at https://lnkd.in/dyE-VYvJ or dave@ready4work.uk We'd love to hear from you.

  • You've probably heard the saying or heard the song "You've got the whole world in your hands"? At School of Thought (Automotive) we believe young people have and we want them to choose Automotive as their career path. So, to end our recent posts for attracting and engaging young people we wanted to remind people what we are all about, and that we need your support to continue. Our strapline is "Without Automotive the World Stops, Without New Talent Automotive stops. We think it is a very clear and powerful message and a scary one as well if we don't take action. Please like, comment and repost, so we can reach more people and spread the word. If you can help us in any way then please contact dave@ready4work.uk or julie@ready4work.uk https://lnkd.in/e9jB9v5r

  • With Pupils and Students heading back to education shortly, please read our 4th instalment about attracting and engaging with young people. Setting the Tone for Success is all about being "Young Person Ready", with some tips for Onboarding successfully, appointing a Supervisor/Mentor, carrying out Reviews and Health, Safety and Wellbeing Whilst it may be too late this year to advertise your apprenticeship opportunities, you should start planning for 2025. We are, and we will be having our AWE25 programme running too, to support young people and businesses. Starting off in 1992 supporting young people into YTS schemes, Julie provided training and guidance with Modern Apprenticeships, National Traineeships and New Deal programmes. The names of the programmes may have changed, but what hasn't changed is that young people still need direction, guidance, a safe and supportive place to work and above all hope. 32 years on, we are still providing support for young people and businesses and giving hope to all. Please get in touch, if you need help with attracting and engaging with young people, remember we cover the whole of Automotive #inclusive and we provide health and safety support too #Besafe4life dave@ready4work.uk or julie@ready4work.uk #Stepup24 #AWE24 #Nextgen24 #Ready4work #Schoolofthough4 #Believe2achieve #Go4wardtowork https://lnkd.in/ey46PqtG
