#COP29 kicks off today and Cool Earth is attending to advocate for Indigenous rights and to show the reality of unconditional climate funding alongside Equal Right, GiveDirectly, CONAP and ONAMIAP. 🌍 Here's 3 things we want to see happen at COP29: ✊🏽 Indigenous Leadership. Indigenous peoples, local communities, and especially women must play a central role in shaping and implementing climate programmes. 💰 Unconditional and direct climate funding. Delivered directly to those on the frontline of the climate crisis. It’s time this was a reality, not just a concept discussed by leaders at climate conferences. 🦋 A joint approach for biodiversity. We must tackle climate change and biodiversity together since they are too closely connected to solve separately. Read our full piece 👇

  • Encouraged to see the innovation in clean technologies at SCS this year. Since I started attending in 2010, the concentration of suppliers offering efficacy based actives, trends in sustainable and vertical practices and responsible sourcing. It finally feels like the world of personal care really does 'care'.

  • One of the most fundamental questions in biology is how we age. The past decades have witnessed a significant revision of a traditional view that aging is simply a random and passive process that is solely driven by entropy. In fact, the aging process is regulated genetically and lifespan can be extended by single gene mutations. The Chen Lab at UC Berkeley research aims to understand molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate the aging process and explore therapeutic targets to slow aging and even reverse aging-associated degeneration. The most intriguing aspect of pharmaceutical intervention that targets the aging pathways is that, instead of targeting a specific disease, it has the potential of ameliorating a wide array of seemingly unrelated diseases associated with aging, such as cancer, tissue degeneration, metabolic syndrome, and immune dysfunction. This makes for fascinating reading: https://lnkd.in/eTi5mGqe

  • Biotech is not 'new-news' but is the lens in which we now value both sustainable and scientific validation. One of the biggest advantages of biotechnology for skin-care ingredient creation is the ability to create new, novel molecules that aid the skin. It can also boost ingredient volume and purity while decreasing the environmental impact of its sourcing. But messaging the value of synthetic ingredients to consumers accustomed to a natural-is-better approach to skin care is an ongoing challenge for beauty brands using biotech ingredients, and there is a growing number. According to market research company Grand View Research, the global biotech ingredients market size was $1.61 billion in 2019, and it’s expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 9.3% to reach $3.01 billion in 2027. So glad that so many diverse markets appreciate this positive trend, the advancement of technologies in a truly conscious and responsible fashion.

  • An Ode to Beauty. The Met Gala 'Sleeping Beauties' has just come and gone. The glamorous, the primed, the tweaked and tucked (and by tucked - did you see Kim Kardashians waist - how does the woman breathe or function - hats off Kim!). This brings to mind the vast and ever evolving impression of 'Beauty' and vivid interpretations. Whether you are a fashion designer, milliner or fine jewellery house, our aesthetic visual imaginations take us via a historical lens whilst weaving a truly modern vision.   Our ongoing concern for beauty is not an affectation of the new social dawn, it is part of the human gene; ie the more people you impress, the more you will be accepted and therefore be part of a community. This is the essence of our survival. I am Susie and I created a beauty/skincare brand 10 years ago. It was partly about curiosity from a social anthropological perspective, studying the historical behaviour of society and culture and how beauty has been perceived and interpreted. It was also a personal ambition to expand my scientific knowledge and appreciate our own biology, understanding the modern archetypes and psychology and the ultimate wave of our evolution. I also had a strong drive to create something desirable in a category that had been inspired by female founders, Estée Lauder, Gabrielle Chanel, Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden who worked with biochemists in 1910! This persuance of discovery has culminated in a beauty industry with a functional cosmetics market predicted to reach USD $6.8b by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 5.9% during the forecasted period from 2023 to 2032. The market is witnessing a significant upswing due to advancements in product formulation. Biotechnology in particular is playing a pivotal roles with novel technologies enabling brands to infuse products with active ingredients that target specific skin issues. This has led to a new generation of cosmetics that offer enhanced performance and targeted benefits. Also, the continued demand for 'Clean Beauty' (which in our language is the use of clean technologies) the emphasis is no longer on non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and cruelty-free products, but evidence based, data driven, clinically studied and biomimetic functions. Science and biology is central to our formulation philosophy. Working with sustainable technologies as part of a collaboration of between what is found in nature and synthetic adaptations. Owning a brand in this industry is akin to riding a stallion in the Wild West. You need the strength and agility but you also need to hold on tight! Whilst the industry is going through immense scientific innovation, emerging technologies with clinical success are now at the heart of a brands modus operandi and our continued mission is to use biology to build a better, more sustainable future.

  • When ingredients work together in harmony, they boost each other's benefits. The power of synergy involves three key dimensions: synergy between ingredients, synergy in pairing products, and the biological synergy between products and the skin. Firstly, the synergy between ingredients highlights the concept that certain molecules work better together, creating a more effective formula in our products. Secondly, the synergy in pairing Romilly Wilde products allows us to develop an effective Skin-System and that helps us achieve longevity and overall healthy skin. Lastly, the biological synergy between our Skin-System and the skin delves into the intricate ways in which our meticulously chosen ingredients work together. • Deep Dive On Why Biomimetic Works Better For Your Skin If you didn't know exactly what Biomimetic skincare is and why it is more effective, we're taking you on a deep dive by the hands of our science experts to shed some light on the matter. "Using the power of nature and biology, Romilly Wilde is always innovating to solve the biggest problems in skincare, unlocking new solutions to skin concerns and highlighting the importance of biomimetic skincare." says our Founder, Susie Willis. With a focus on harnessing the wisdom of nature, Romilly Wilde's commitment to innovation in skincare goes hand in hand with our dedication to biomimetic principles. By tapping into the potent capabilities of natural ingredients, strive to formulate products that not only address skincare concerns but also honour the intricate balance of the skin's biology. This approach highlights the significance of utilising fundamental elements like amino acids which are essential for nurturing skin's resilience and vitality.  Amino acids are fundamental building blocks of proteins which play a crucial role in skin structure and function. These compounds are essential for maintaining hydration, elasticity, and overall skin health. These small molecules can penetrate deep into the skin, delivering targeted benefits. They are invaluable for their potent skin rejuvenating properties and ability to replenish and support the skin's natural barrier function, promoting a youthful and radiant complexion. We incorporate a synergy of amino acids within our skin-system to effectively address a wide range of concerns. Two key ingredients found in our biomimetic skincare formulations are Ectoin and L-arginine. Both Ectoin and L-arginine are highly compatible with the skin due to their natural origin and biomimetic properties. By mimicking the skin's own biology, these ingredients can effectively interact with skin cells, delivering targeted benefits without causing irritation or sensitivity. As a result our formulas with Ectoin and L-arginin offer gentle yet potent solutions for a range of concerns. Incorporating these advanced ingredients into biomimetic skincare formulations allows for synergistic interactions that optimise the skin's natural processes, promoting long-term health and vitality. • The Science Behind Night Duty Understanding the science of our natural night cream goes beyond surface-level skincare; it delves into biomimetic formulations offering a revolutionary approach to combating the visible signs of ageing. Biology first R&D is at the heart of our formulas; understanding the ageing process means examining the biological processes involved. As we age, our skin undergoes multiple changes, including a decline in collagen and elastin production, leading to loss of firmness and elasticity. Additionally, environmental stressors such as pollution and UV accelerate this process, resulting in the formation of fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone. Enter biotechnology, a cutting-edge field that harnesses the power of biological systems to develop advanced skincare solutions, our night cream delivers on this progressive approach. Night Duty Face Cream stands out from the crowd combining advanced biotech actives and natural extracts with the power of Bio-Retinol and Principhyal®️Cube³, Hyaluronic Acid to deliver unparalleled results.  One of the key actives in our night cream is Principhyal®️Cube³, a next-generation biomimetic hyaluronic acid complex is engineered using biomimetic principles, ensuring optimal compatibility with the skin, matching the skin structure and reconnecting damage at the molecular level. At the innermost layers of skin are the components such as collagen, elastin, hyaluronan (HA), which are responsible for the skin's core strength and elasticity. When skin is exposed to damaging elements like environmental stressors, those components break down and disconnect leaving skin weak and dull. By integrating biomimetic actives our formula allows the actives to mimic the skin's biology, allowing it to remain in skin and restore strength and elasticity. The unique structure of Principhyal®️Cube³ allows it to act as a scaffold, working within the innermost layers of the skin through specific mechanisms of action improving deep hydration and the integrity of the skin barrier. This not only helps to improve skin texture and tone but also enhances overall firmness and elasticity for a lifting and smoothing effect by morning.  The science of our biotech night cream offers a glimpse into the future of our skincare, an innovative blend of cutting-edge technology, natural ingredients and biomimetic principles aimed at combating ageing and restoring youthful vitality. With ingredients like Principhyal®️Cube³ at the forefront, our night cream stands as those seeking biological efficacy and science-backed solutions for their skincare concerns.
