When planning your festive celebrations, one thing to always bear in mind is the drinks you'll be serving. Cocktails are wonderful, but are they the best choice for large gatherings? Sparkling wine can hit the spot but this one-size-fits-all approach isn't always best for your guests. Get your drinks spot-on for every event this year with our guide to drinks for celebrations.

How can you make your classic cocktails a little more wintery during the festive season? We know a few ways: ▪️Use earthy spices. Infusing spices like cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg into classic cocktails can deliver a winter warmth that goes a long way this time of year. ▪️Introduce winter fruits. The likes of oranges and cranberries are particularly popular during this time of year and can be incorporated into your favourite cocktails. For example, this cranberry Manhattan uses cranberry syrup and a cranberry garnish to slightly alter a cocktail classic. ▪️Take advantage of dark, robust spirits. There are exceptions, but typically the likes of bourbon or dark rum are more wintery than the likes of gin or vodka. You can stick to cocktails that traditionally use darker spirits, or you can get creative and swap out lighter spirits for darker ones in instances where the drink still works. A popular option it to swap out vodka for bourbon with your espresso martini. Try some of the above and you might find yourself feeling a little more festive.

Lager's reputation has taken a bit of a hit over the years, with some considering it to be a lower-quality beer style when compared to other types have beer that have boomed in popularity during the craft beer boom. We're here to tell you that isn't always the case, and lager has thankfully enjoyed a bit of a comeback of late. If you're looking to explore new types of lager, here are a few styles you might fancy trying: ▪️Pale lagers like American Pale and Pilsner are often quite light and crisp with subtle malty flavours. If you're new to lager then some pale lagers might be a good place to start. ▪️Amber lagers often display a more prominent malty complexion than pale lagers. Vienna Lager and Dortmunder Export are two prominent examples of this style. ▪️Darker lagers like Marzen and Dunkel are fuller-bodied and can display richer aromas like caramel and chocolate. Dark lagers are often better suited to people who have a little more experience with beer, but it's always okay to try something new! That's just a brief intro to underline our point that lager is a wonderful and varied type of beer that is anything but basic.
