  • Delighted to share news of our appeal success on land at Newick for 21 homes and the sale to Riverdale Developments. It’s wonderful to get these successes but the journey has been a rollercoaster! Lewes District Council had been struggling to maintain a 5 year housing land supply, so following a successful pre app we were encouraged to submit an application which we did in December 2021. After months of delays getting responses from statutory consultees our application was finally heard at committee in February 2023. At the meeting, there was much debate (as always) but many councillors spoke up in support of the excellent layout and high-quality design. Pleasingly the vote to grant planning was 5 – 4 in our favour. Seemingly job done but three weeks later we were informed by the council that our application was going back to committee as one of the councillors hadn’t been correctly appointed and there was a threat of a JR. So, we returned to committee in March 2023, heard the same arguments but this time the application was deferred on drainage grounds. These further points were satisfactorily resolved with support from the LLFA and our application went back to committee in April 2023 for the third time in three months. The same debates ensued but when the councillors were advised that they couldn’t refuse the application on drainage grounds they discussed what else they could refuse the application on. Landscape as one of the more subjective areas became their reason for refusal. An appeal was then submitted in October 2023 requesting a hearing, which was downgraded to written reps, with a site visit in March 2024. The decision was expected in early May but due to the GE the decision was delayed until after the elections and our appeal was finally allowed in July. Credit to the planners at Lewes District Council for their professionalism and supporting a logical and much needed, thoughtfully designed development. Huge thanks also to our consultant team, Jonathan Cavell at Knights, ECE Architecture, Turley, fabrik, Motion Consultants, The Ecology Partnership, Town Legal LLP and Lizard Landscape Design and Ecology Ltd, all expertly led by our Planning Manager, Fay Goodson. Riverdale Developments were a delight to deal with and sat patiently in the background waiting for sense to prevail, many thanks to Edward Owens. Thank you also to Adam Galbraith at Searls Land and our Land Director, Steve Ohalloran for navigating the sale and purchase. #landwemakeitwork. #AppealSuccess

  • Thank you to all the golfers for supporting the Reside Charity Golf Day at Slinfold Golf & Country Club on 17th May. Thankfully, we were blessed with perfect golfing weather and the course was surprisingly dry. We've received some wonderful feedback from so many of you and I think the overriding feeling is just what a great friendly atmosphere the event provided combined with a fabulous opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues.  Aside from Reside’s desire to host a fun day of 'playing a-round' and a rare chance to have some downtime, there was a slightly more serious side, which was to raise money for Shooting Star Children's Hospices. And, with your help and incredible generosity, we did a fabulous job and succeeded in raising a staggering £15,250 - thank you so very much for your support. We've encapsulated the fun, camaraderie and spirit of the day in a special photo album, happy viewing! #landwemakeitwork

  • The Reside Group has been incredibly successful at acquiring long term strategic sites, but the business is now very focussed on acquiring shorter-term land opportunities. The sites we're now looking for would typically be suitable for either an immediate planning application, or one that could be submitted within the next 2-3 years. Potential sites should be capable of accommodating between 10 and 200 units that can be controlled via an option, promotion or subject to planning agreement. Smaller sites of up to circa £2 million could be acquired on a Subject to Contract only basis. If you think you may have something suitable or would like to speak with our land team in the first instance, please email land@reside.group #landwemakeitwork

  • Reside’s Charity Golf Day in support of Shooting Star Children's Hospices is fast approaching, a huge good luck to all the teams that have entered and a special thanks goes to Slinfold Golf & Country Club, PAUL BASHAM ASSOCIATES LIMITED, Knights, THE PROMOTIONAL EDGE (UK) LTD, Sigma Homes Group, Cripps, Elivia Homes, Motion Consultants, Searls Land, Cala Group Limited, The McLaren Clark Consultancy, Savills, Turner Morum, DHA Planning Group, and Menzies LLP who have all very generously donated gifts for our Silent Auction to raise as much money for the charity as possible, thank you also to Nicola Light for helping capture, what we hope to be a record breaking (and sunny) day. #landwemakeitwork #20yearsofReside #ChairtyGolf #Lettherebesun

  • Following a successful appeal in 2023 for 83 units our site has now been sold to Bellway Homes.   In spite of the appeal, the planning element was relatively straightforward but securing a water neutral scheme was far more involved.   However, we worked closely with a local farm that is located within the Sussex North Water Supply Zone. The works to the farm include the construction of a very large agricultural shed and the harvesting of rainwater from the new and existing barn roofs. This water will then be used as a substitute for the current water supply as part of the dairy operations. We were able to demonstrate that the dairy operation is water intensive and the water savings at the farm would more than offset the increased use which will result from the occupation of the new houses.   This is one of a handful of ‘water neutral’ permissions that have been granted since the restriction was imposed over 2 years ago so huge credit to the Reside team and our consultants for finding an inventive and workable solution.   In terms of the land sale, our sincere thanks to the excellent team of: Adam Galbraith, Searls Land, Jenny Tully at Gowlings, Matthew Hoad, Bellway, James Clewlow at Cripps LLP.   #landwemakeitwork #strategicland #landandplanning

  • 2024 sees the Reside Group celebrate 20 Years. The company started life as a bespoke housebuilder creating a number of award-winning developments. As the planning system changed and its expertise grew the company has, for the last 10 years focused on promoting and delivering strategic sites in partnership with landowners across the southeast. The change in work habitat has resulted with a robust portfolio of nearly 30 sites, which will deliver over 2,000 homes. The Reside Group has always been keen to support a number of charities and local community projects and is delighted this work will continue, whether it's by giving its time and experience to a project, such as the Scout Hut refurbishment, or by raising funds through a charity focused event like the annual golf day. Suffice to say the 7,300 days in business have gone very quickly and the intention is to enjoy every moment of the 2024 celebrations and revel in the glory of surviving the planning system. Thank you so much for your support. #landwemakeitwork
