  • Have you seen Carry On yet? It’s one of Netflix’s top films this holiday season! 🎬 People are loving the action, but some critics caught a funny mistake – a baby with hair... and then without in the same scene! 😂 (Check the pic!) Even big-budget films slip up sometimes. It’s wild how these little things get noticed! However, if you’re having a chill Friday night, definitely give this Xmas thriller a watch and see if you can spot the error too. Want more deets before you dive in? • "Time is a sort of river of passing events, and strong is its current" Top marks if you know the quote? It continues: "no sooner is a thing brought to sight than it is swept by and another takes its place, and this too will be swept away." Any guesses? You got it, Marcus Aurelius, by all accounts a top bloke. As these events pass they give us all a chance to reflect, catch up, and spend time the best way it can be spent, in the company of friends new and old, at Christmas. As 2024 nears its conclusion, we are edging closer to our final event of the year in London tomorrow upstairs at the BFI Southbank. Having launched at SXSW in March and been at Cannes [https://lnkd.in/eHkaZebj], Tribeca [https://lnkd.in/eHkaZebj], LFF and AFM [https://lnkd.in/eHkaZebj], later marks the last get together of the year - if you're coming do make sure you have RSVP'd in the recdek app and we'll look forward to seeing you there. See ya later. "You grow up, you work half a century, you get a golden handshake, you rest a couple of years and you're dead. And the only thing that makes that crazy ride worthwhile is 'Did I enjoy it? What did I learn? What was the point?' That's where I come in." - David Brent.

  • Be entertained this Christmas! Whatever your film and TV tipple this Christmas, make sure it's the stuff meant for you. Why waste precious family time scrolling streamers whilst ghastly algorithms try and sucker you into their next show faster than you can say "recdek". That's why we built recdek, be inspired by your friend's faves.   The venue of our Christmas social on Tuesday is now the Balcony Bar at BFI Southbank - RSVP is now live in your recdek app!   Because let's face it, film and tv aren't just there to be watched, it is there to provoke thoughts, to be discussed, debated and reasoned with! That's why we've been hosting events this year at SXSW, Cannes, Tribeca, London and more, you may have read about it. See you tomorrow to hear about what you've been loving lately. This week and over Christmas we'll be rounding up the most popular film and tv of the year, directly from the recdek app, but for now, here's our pick of the week: possibly TV's most ambitious adaptation yet? One Hundred Years of Solitude This 16-part series (!) brings Márquez's magical realist epic to vivid life. Following the sprawling Buendía family across generations, it begins with two cousins founding the isolated town of Macondo - where priests levitate, ghosts linger, and yellow flowers rain from the sky. The first eight episodes balance visual poetry with raw human drama. Watch out for a stunning three-minute tracking shot that shows years passing in a single take, or the hauntingly beautiful scene where blood impossibly snakes through town to announce a death. These moments of magic are treated as casually as you can imagine. Directors Alex García López and Laura Mora pull off the near-impossible task of making Márquez's prose visual. Though some of the book's darker elements (incest, violence, sure) land differently on screen, the show captures the novel's dreamy meditation on family, fate, and the weight of history. Like the book, this isn't really a casual watch. But for those willing to surrender to its enchanting world, it's a landmark achievement in bringing literary magic to the screen. Add this to your watchlist here: https://lnkd.in/e926ik_9 Keep dreaming of Macondo and we'll catch you next week. Ed
