Care. Compassion. Community.
About us
The Prince of Wales Hospice (Registered Charity No. 514999) in Pontefract has provided specialist care to people with a life-limiting illness since 1989. Our services are available to the communities in the Five Towns area of Wakefield district. We care for anyone over the age of 18, either as a visiting out-patient or on our ward where we offer 24-hour specialist care. Our care also extends to the carers and families of our patients by providing wellbeing services and bereavement support. We provide our care free of charge, but only around 35% of the cost is covered by the NHS. We need to raise £3.5m a year through donations, our charity shops and commercial catering company, The Caring Kitchen, and other fundraising initiatives. We help nearly 2,000 local people each year with a wide range of life-limiting illnesses. - £12.50 could pay for a family afternoon tea on Incare. - £20 could cover the cost of an Incare bed for an hour (including nursing, doctors, catering and housekeeping). - £280 could cover the cost of our Incare unit for an hour (including nursing, doctors, catering and housekeeping). The Prince of Wales Hospice is an independent hospice. Registered Charity No: 514999 Company Limited by Guarantee Registered Company: 1797810

We recently had some help spreading some Christmas joy as pupils from Larks Hill J & I School, Halfpenny Lane School and Carleton Park J&I School visited the hospice last week and sang carols for our staff and patients. 🌟 We want to say a big thank you to all who participated and filled our Hospice with festive cheer. 🎄 To read more, check out this Wakefield express article: https://lnkd.in/ebv3_AqD? Just one of the amazing things our Occupational Therapist, Chris, does for our Hospice 💖
What do eggs and bacon have to do with occupational therapy? 🤔 Well, at the The Prince of Wales Hospice, occupational therapist Chris runs a weekly breakfast club! 🍳 It provides an opportunity for social connection, boosts mood and confidence, and improves everyday skills like serving food and drink in a safe and supportive environment. 'I get to know all the patients really well from spending so much time on the ward with them, so I know the different levels of functional ability each patient has and what they are comfortable doing,' Chris explains. 'We had one patient who attended the first two sessions and has now gone home. She was able to make herself a cup of tea and help herself to food, which was a real confidence booster for her.' 'We try to make life at the Hospice as normal as possible for the patients so that going home to their regular routine isn’t too much of an adjustment.' What a great example of how occupational therapy is transforming health and social care. 💚

A big thank you to Emma and the team at G3 Remarketing | Vehicle Auctions who kindly donated lots of chocolates and biscuits to our Hospice for our patients and staff. 🍫 Everything will be greatly enjoyed and will spread some Christmas cheer over the festive period! 💖 #pwhospice #thankyou
