  • In assessing your first-aid needs, you should consider: * the nature of the work you do * workplace hazards and risks (including specific hazards requiring special arrangements) * the nature and size of your workforce * the work patterns of your staff * holiday and other absences of those who will be first-aiders and appointed persons * your organisation's history of accidents or incidents You may also need to consider: * the needs of travelling, remote and lone workers * the distribution of your workforce * the remoteness of any of your sites from emergency medical services * whether your employees work on shared or multi-occupancy sites * first-aid provision for non-employees (eg members of the public).

  • UK First Aid: The Life-Saving Skills We Overlook Statistics: • Every year, around 140,000 people die in the UK from incidents where first aid could have made a difference. That’s more than the number of people who die from cancer. • Less than 1 in 10 people survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the UK. Immediate CPR can double or triple survival rates. • Only 5% of adults in the UK feel confident enough to administer first aid in an emergency. The fear of doing something wrong often stops them from trying at all. Statements: • First aid is not just a skill; it’s a responsibility. Whether in the workplace, at home, or in public, knowing basic first aid can be the difference between life and death. • In the time it takes for an ambulance to arrive, a bystander trained in first aid can keep someone alive. These minutes are critical. • The more people who are trained in first aid, the safer our communities become. It’s a skill that should be as common as driving or using a computer. Thought-Provoking Points: • Imagine witnessing an emergency and not knowing what to do. How would you feel if someone’s fate depended on your actions? • First aid training should be mandatory in all workplaces and schools. Why wait for an emergency to realise its importance? • We insure our homes, our cars, and our phones, but how often do we invest in the skills needed to protect the lives of those around us?
