Our partner, Normandie Hydroliennes, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on the WiSEED platform to support the development of its tidal turbine pilot farm in the Raz Blanchard near Cherbourg. Project Highlights: 👉 12MW installed capacity across the tidal farm. 👉 Commissioning scheduled for 2028. 👉 Using Proteus Marine Renewables' AR3000 tidal turbine technology (3MW each). 👉 Initiated by ENGIE, and supported by Normandie Participations, EFINOR, and Proteus Marine Renewables. 👉 Turbines to be manufactured locally in Cherbourg by EFINOR. This innovative project not only supports renewable energy but also strengthens the local economy by leveraging regional expertise, and we are very excited to be part of it! PLN Indonesia Power Delegation Explores MeyGen Tidal Energy site! Recently, Proteus Marine Renewables, together with SAE, had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from PT PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) and the Indonesian Maritime Ministry at SAE’s MeyGen Tidal Energy Facility in Scotland. Fraser Johnson from SAE led the tour, showcasing the MeyGen operations facility at Nigg, where the AR1500 turbine was recently serviced. The delegation also visited the MeyGen site, the world’s largest tidal stream site, featuring a world-first 6MW array operation. To date, MeyGen has delivered an incredible 69 GWh of zero-emissions, predictable electricity to the local grid! Discussions also focused on the next phase of the MeyGen project, which will scale the site to 65MW. Fraser Johnson commented: "As part of their UK visit, we were delighted to showcase the world-leading operations of our MeyGen site and the turbine technology. It was great for PLN IP and the Indonesian Maritime Ministry to see first-hand the level and scale of knowledge and experience we already have on the technology and its direct application for future renewable marine energy projects in Indonesia." Over the past few years, PLN IP and the Indonesian Government have shown growing interest in MW-scale tidal turbine facilities for Indonesia, assisted by joint project-development partner SBS INTL Ltd. We were honoured to support the delegation’s visit and understand their first tidal energy project has received approval to proceed in 2025. Back in the Water! The Proteus team has been back at the Pentland Firth, leading the successful redeployment of the AR1500 turbine at the world-leading MeyGen tidal array. This marks a significant milestone for MeyGen and SAE, as all four turbines at the site are collectively delivering 6MW of predictable, renewable power at full capacity. Since 2018, Proteus personnel have led offshore missions at the MeyGen site and in 2022 secured a long-term offshore services agreement with MeyGen for the installation and recovery of their four turbines. Under that agreement, our team managed all facets of the mission, including preparation of the subsea foundation using the onboard advanced robotic technology (ROV) and reconnection of the turbine to that subsea asset using our innovative tooling and systems. Despite the pressures of storm Bert, mission success and vessel off-hire was achieved within just a few hours of target. We’re also proud to be collaborating with SAE Renewables, SKF Marine, and GE Vernova to develop the next phase of the MeyGen project. Together, we are advancing plans for a cutting-edge 3MW turbine, which could play a key role in scaling MeyGen to its next 59MW and beyond. Cara Donovan Joins Proteus - A Major Boost for Our Environmental and Consent Expertise! Cara Donovan has joined us as Senior Environment & Consent Manager. In her role, Cara will lead on environmental consents across our expanding portfolio of tidal stream projects, ensuring we adhere to regulatory standards and uphold environmental best practices. Cara is no stranger to our team, having previously worked with many of us during our time as part of Atlantis Resources Limited and Simec Atlantis Energy, where her expertise was instrumental in several of our key projects. Her extensive experience of the tidal energy sector has enabled her to expertly manage regulatory discussions and environmental consents to support a wide range of activities from early phase project planning through to the installation of the first phase of the #MeyGen tidal array, the operation of MeyGen and the SeaGen device in Strangford Lough. Cara also led the decommissioning of SeaGen and the Atlantis turbine in Orkney. Additionally, she played a pivotal role in securing planning permission for the largest Battery Energy Storage System in Wales located at the Uskmouth Power Station in Newport. Cara's work consistently combines technical knowledge with regulatory expertise, working closely with key regulators and stakeholders to ensure compliance whilst driving project success.
