Fierce competition and outdated technology have long challenged P&O Ferries. But with the release of the PULSE platform, the British shipping company is embracing a more efficient, data-driven future. The key takeaway? Legacy transformation doesn’t have to be slow or painful. It can be swift, strategic, and almost risk-free—even for large, complex organisations. Learn more here: https://netcmpy.com/PO

We recently had the honour of helping to bring a baby orangutan named Kiwi over to the UK to start a new life at Monkey World’s specialist sanctuary in Dorset. Kiwi the orangutan was rejected by her mother at a sanctuary in Spain and so travelled to Monkey World in Dorset, UK to join its specialist orangutan nursery. We were delighted to be able to help – big thanks to Monkey World for choosing to travel with us and thanks to our colleagues who worked together to make the journey smooth for Kiwi’s team. Thanks to Ferry Shipping News & Ferry Shipping Summit for a great summit last week. Our colleague Martin O'Rourke enjoyed sharing information about our drone diving technology with delegates and we look forward to future opportunities for collaboration.
The Ferry Shipping Summit in Athens brought together a diverse group of European and Mediterranean shipping companies, from major ferry operators to local Greek firms. The discussions of the challenges and opportunities, particularly regarding the unique needs of Greece's extensive ferry network, were insightful. During a dedicated Greek panel two key issues were highlighted: Short-Term Licensing: Local licenses for ferry routes to Greece’s 164+ islands are generally allocated on a one-year basis. This short timeframe hinders long-term investment, innovation, and the adoption of green shipping practices. Use of ETS Revenues: Currently, revenue from the Emissions Trading System (ETS) in Greece is not reinvested into the shipping sector. Instead, funds are diverted to other infrastructure and development projects, missing a critical opportunity to modernise the ferry industry. These limitations ultimately affect both customers and tourists, who face higher costs without corresponding advancements in service or sustainability. There is a strong call for guidance from Brussels to channel ETS funds back into Greece’s ferry sector, supporting growth, innovation, and environmental progress. In the panel: Theologos Panagiotakis, General Manager - Fast Ferries Georgios Papaioannides - Saronic Ferries Stratis Apergis, CEO - Levante Ferries Martin O Rourke, Fleet Fuel & Energy Efficiency / Capex Manager - P&O Ferries Moderator: Spiros Paschalis, former CEO of Attica and now head of Sea Ahead Marine Consulting
