About us
The Diocese of Oxford is the Church of England in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Milton Keynes. Covering 2,200 square miles, the diocese sits between the Cotswolds in the west and London to the east. It serves a population of 2.2m people and extends from tiny rural communities to the vastly different cities of Oxford and Milton Keynes. There are 815 churches in the diocese, more than any other diocese in the Church of England. The Bishop of Oxford, the Rt Rev Dr Steven Croft, has responsibility for the oversight of the whole diocese. He is supported by three Area Bishops, the Bishops of Dorchester, Buckingham and Reading, to whom he delegates certain powers in their own areas. Work life balance is a key priority for the diocese. In 2018 we launched our Flourishing in Ministry resources, which provide advice and support for lay and ordained ministers. Access them online at oxford.anglican.org/flourishing To see all current vacancies in the diocese, please visit oxford.anglican.org/vacancies.

The ODBE annual service for school leaders was held at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, on 4 December. During the service, leaders re-committed to ensuring everyone at every school is valued and cherished, and pupils promised to treasure the opportunities they're given to grow and learn. Adults and children then prayed for each other. A huge thank you to all involved in schools across the diocese, children and adults alike, for your hard work throughout the year. 📸 Rowan Lake

Bishop Steven has urged the government to accelerate the just and fair transition to electric vehicles, in a take-note informal debate in the House of Lords last week. Passenger cars accounted for more than half the surface transport emissions in the UK, he said. These emissions contributed to the almost 30,000 deaths from air pollution every year. Bishop Steven also said that “forty per cent of the country will not have access to a home charging point. There is at present no viable solution to ensure parity...it will need some radical and imaginative thinking. How will the Government address this key question of fairness?” Read his full speech at https://lnkd.in/eicJnZj7 #electricvehicles #justtransition #decarbonisation
