'We do the Right Thing' 💚
As an FCA regulated company, one of my roles at Optimal is Consumer Duty Champion, and it’s one I take very seriously I overheard a conversation yesterday that filled my consumer duty heart 💙 A client had recently converted a large amount of £ to € ready to purchase a second home abroad, but the sale at the last minute got delayed by at least 6 months. The client rang their dedicated broker and said they were considering converting the euros back again, to benefit from the higher interest rates available to them in the UK, and then reconverting back to GBP again in 6 months time. From the Broker’s point of view, this could have been a very easy way of generating good commission on each conversion, simply doing what the client had requested of them. What the broker actually did was: ⏰take the time to fully understand the client’s new situation 📈 make clear the pros and cons of each scenario ⚖️help the client weigh up the risks and benefits After an in depth conversation, the client felt that it was better to leave the euros in situ, which, having overheard the conversation, I whole heartedly agreed with. We have many things in place at Optimal to ensure we meet our consumer duty requirements: - a clear pricing policy - quality assurance checks to ensure all our policies and procedures are followed to the letter - in depth management information reported to the board But MOST importantly, we have wonderful brokers that do the right thing, no matter how difficult. Meet the team - David Bayliss - Head of Sales and Dealing David has been with Optimal since day one. Working his way up to now head up the sales team. If he isn't dealing with one of his many clients, he will be out at a networking event or an exhibition spreading the Optimal word. Out of the office, David spends his weekends with family and friends. The majority of his weekends are spent managing Tring Tornadoes U10, spending valuable time on days out to the seaside, a theme park or a zoo.
