We’re determined to ensure the views and voices of disabled people are at the heart of everything we do. The Lead Ministers for Disability will play a key role in championing disability rights, as well as promoting disability inclusion and accessibility, across their department and the missions. Minister for Social Security and Disability, Sir Stephen Timms MP, convened the ministerial network’s first meeting today, where Ministers discussed key barriers to opportunity and shared their priorities for shaping a better future for disabled people of all backgrounds.

The Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill introduced in Parliament today will make a child-centred government a reality by putting children’s interests first and stopping vulnerable children falling through cracks. The bill includes: 🏠 A new home education register and unique numbers for pupils – like every adult has a national insurance number – to stop children falling through the cracks. ⚠️ New rules on home education to protect vulnerable children. 🧑🏫 Stronger role for schools and professionals in safeguarding decisions, to make sure help can be mobilised for every child that needs it. Everyone should have the opportunity to succeed and thrive at workplace. Minister for Social Security and Disability Sir Stephen Timms visited New Warlands Farm to learn how they provide vocational training and employment opportunities for adults with learning disabilities – so they can move into employment in the agricultural sector. We are consulting with disabled people on changes to employment support and the social security system, to ensure they will have the same opportunities to move into work and experience the benefits of employment too often taken for granted.
