How many tonnes of stone do you think it takes to restore 8-arches on a 30m-high, Grade II-listed 180-year old viaduct? 🚉 ...𝟰𝟬 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟮,𝟲𝟬𝟬 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬. That's how many we have restored during a year-long restoration of the iconic Ouse Valley Viaduct near Haywards Heath. Built in 1841, this 450m-long structure with 37 arches has been repaired to preserve its heritage and protect public footpaths below. Built in 1841, this 450m-long structure with 37 arches has been repaired to preserve its heritage and protect public footpaths below. We used locally sourced materials and environmentally considerate techniques like soil stabilisation and 'Lewis pins' to ensure minimal environmental impact while achieving precision placement of stones weighing up to 480kg. This upgrade works not only restores "the most elegant viaduct in Britain" but also ensures it stands strong for generations to come. A huge well done to everyone involved for successfully completing this project on time for 'Network Rail, whilst protecting the environment. Exciting progress on the Long Stratton Bypass, in Norfolk! 🚧 We’ve reached a major milestone with the first layer of asphalt being laid on the main carriageway. This section connects the new roundabout at Parkers Lane's west end to the southern tie-in with the A140. Asphalt will continue to be laid in sections throughout 2025. The 4km single-carriageway bypass will transform journeys on the A140, featuring three new roundabouts, two new junctions, two overbridges and multiple attenuation ponds. The bypass will ease current congestion on the A140 bottleneck, boost cycling and walking routes, bringing significant benefits to Long Stratton and the wider transport network. Once completed, it will cut congestion, unlock economic growth, and improve journey times across the county. We’re proud to deliver this project for Norfolk County Council, which began in February 2024. Stay tuned for updates as we build smoother, safer journeys for the Norfolk Community. Christmas came early for passengers travelling to and from Stoneleigh Station, Epsom as they can now travel easier in and around the station following the completion of the Access for All upgrade on time for Network Rail, for passengers to enjoy. Our rail team have transformed the station which was originally built in the 1930s into a more user-friendly station, improving the passenger experience in particular for people travelling with young children, older people, with health conditions of disabilities. The project features a new covered footbridge, with three associated lifts, providing step-free access to the central platform via lifts or stairs from both sides of the station. The upgrade also includes a new modern ticket office on the island platform, enhanced lighting, security cameras, and canopy works to provide a safer environment for users from both sides of the line from Stoneleigh Broadway on the east and Station Approach, off Stoneleigh Park Road, to the west. The Access for All programme, supported by Network Rail in partnership with the Department for Transport (DfT), aims to remove barriers to travel by creating accessible routes into stations and between platforms. Enhanced accessibility also supports the local economy, reduces car journeys, and contributes to lower congestion and carbon emissions. 🚧 🌧️ Our Regional Civil Engineering team recently welcomed the MP for South East Cornwall, Anna Gelderd to the A38 Notter Bridge project, in Cornwall, where the team are close to completing drainage upgrade works. The flooding hot spot is being transformed into a safer area for road users, as the works will mitigate flooding on land close to the River Lyner, where historically caused rain related collisions. The works also include replacement of existing gullies, clearance of significant vegetation, barrier renewal, waterproofing and resurfacing. Following the visit, MP Anna Gelderd said “It was excellent getting to meet the team delivering the improvements at Notter Bridge. I’m more than aware of how much need there’s been for drainage improvements here following historical flooding in the area. The completion of these works will be of great local benefit to residents, road users and the environment. I’m pleased that the works are on schedule and I’m aware that National Highways and Octavius have worked tirelessly to ensure that the works are completed on time and to high standards.” Visit the article on our website to read more about how we’re improving safety for road users in Cornwall. 👇 https://lnkd.in/g89at8WN Nick Brooks Chris Ellis Ben Race Paul Baynham MCIHT Matthew Cooper #SaferRoadTravel #RoadSafety #Flooding #RegionalCivilEngineering #Cornwall #RoadUpgrades #CivilEngineering National Highways

Our Long Stratton Bypass project team has been recognised as excellent by the Considerate Constructors Scheme, scoring an impressive 42/45 following a recent site audit 🎉 The auditor praised our commitment to: ● Environment and sustainability with innovative initiatives to protect and preserve our surroundings. ● Community engagement. ● Social value with plans for education, training, and goodwill initiatives. ● Health & safety leadership ensuring the well-being of our workforce. In the report the auditor commented " All aspects of the delivery of this project is an exemplar for the industry and provides a very professional and positive image for both the contractor and thus for the client and all other stakeholders. The various methods of communicating with the latter, such as the newsletters and the webpage ensures the local community is aware of the progress of the works at all times. The contractor has produced a challenging Social Value plan although goodwill and charity support is already well advanced and will be soon supported by planned education and training initiatives. There are extensive and comprehensive environmental, and sustainability plans in place, all of which appears to be managed effectively by the dedicated team of well trained and experienced supervisors. Waste management appears to underpin the latter. The importance of effective health and safety leadership also appears to be a top priority for the contractor and appears to be well communicated to all the workforce on a continuous basis and similarly well monitored." Well done to everyone involved in this important project! Exciting news! 📢 We have secured our first project through the LOT 3 Gen 5 Framework with Devon County Council for the £7.5m Dinan Way improvements at Exmouth. The Dinan Way project at Exmouth includes the construction of an 850m stretch of two-way carriageway with two connecting roundabouts between the junction of Dinan Way / Hulham Road and the A376 Exmouth Road. Octavius Delivery Director for Highways, Chris Hudson commented. “Our works will commence this December and are anticipated to be complete by December 2025. Once completed our works will divert traffic from Exmouth Town Centre and reduce congestion to residential areas such as Summer Lane. It will also improve sustainable travel options for local communities including safer and more accessible onward connectivity to the Exe Estuary Trail, a 26Km cycle route through beautiful villages along a wonderfully level route taking in RSPB reserves offering some of the best opportunities to view wildlife along the estuary. We are therefore delighted to be playing our part in supporting Devon County Councils objectives to positively address climate concerns, drive sustainable economic recovery and enhance the health and wellbeing of their communities.” Read more about how our works will improve congestion and connectivity in Devon on our website 👇 https://lnkd.in/e4-EydEv #BringingPeopleTogether #InfrastructureImprovements #Exmouth #DinanWay #Devon #RoadImprovements #Highways #ReducingCongestion #ConnectingPeople #Construction Mike Todd
