Pharrell Williams gave some of the best advice you’ll ever hear at Web Summit. If you could snap your fingers right now and have your dream job, what would it be?    Now, your loftiest dreams might seem impossible now but they’re honestly not as far off as you may think — and I truly believe everyone is capable of doing what they love. Just listen to Pharrell’s advice.     He gives a great example about football. Let’s say you love the game but lack the athletic ability to play in the pros. That’s okay. There are other jobs within the world of football that can provide you with a fulfilling career. You could be a coach, trainer, camera man, editor, announcer, reporter — there are so many possibilities that can help you feel fulfilled.     And that goes for any industry. There are so many ways in.     For me, I was able to get my foot in the door of the entertainment industry through my experience as a lawyer. You can find joy in a job that allows you to do a form of what you love every single day.     Don’t close yourself off by narrowing your vision. Always keep your mind open to expansion. Sure, you may never catch a touchdown on gameday, but you can still do something related to what you love that is rewarding beyond a paycheck.     When your job aligns with your purpose and you truly love doing it, all the hours you spend working become worth it.      If you’re junior or entry level, list your dream job and ask a question. My top ten tips for reducing stress & burnout: (1) Accepting that over working is a symptom of my ambition: there's nothing wrong with me, I just have big dreams! (2) Being realistic about what I can achieve in a day: if my calendar is full of calls, I am going to have less time for solo work. (3) Time block essential self-care like workouts, meal times and even play time as it helps me stay motivated to get through the day. (4) Make the most of quieter times: if a meeting is unexpectedly cancelled, I put the time to good use tackling a task or enjoying a break. (5) Give myself grace: the person I was last week might have made plans the person I am today can't handle. If I need to revise deadlines or reschedule, I do. (6) Listen to my body! Most of us do very cerebral work and let our minds do the driving. I tune in to my body: if I feel hungry, I eat! If I feel tired, I take a break. (7) Celebrating small wins: it's important to embody our achievements, it breaks up the repetitiveness of work and sparks joy. (8) Always having something non-work related to look forward to: I book tickets to a gig, dinner with a friend, whatever it is, I pop it in the calendar. (9) Saying no to things that aren't aligned with my priorities, goals and energy levels: boundaries are hard to enforce but essential for wellbeing. (10) Making movement an essential part of my day: from walks to workouts, moving my body helps keep my stress levels down and takes me away from my screen. What helps you? Tell me in the comments.
