Back in July, we partnered up with Net Zero Now to review the carbon footprint of our operations at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit 🏎️ ♻️ With the growing imperative for environmental responsibility, our goal was to achieve a 5% reduction in GHG emissions in the delivery of the catering throughout the duration of the event. We also aimed for a more ambitious target of a 25% reduction in a new 'Zero Zone' area. Sustainability Manager, Richard West said: "Through partnering with Net Zero Now we’ve realised that collaboration is key to making lasting and impactful environmental changes in the events catering industry. This collaboration provided us with valuable frameworks for measuring and reducing our carbon emissions and has reinforced our commitment to ESG principles. The process has been much more straightforward than we thought it would be and we look forward to setting even bigger reductions targets as we go forward." 🥘 The role of food in health and education outcomes is undeniable and the need to shift diets to achieve climate and sustainability goals widely acknowledged. Driven by great campaigning and policy work from the likes of The Food Foundation , Food for Life and Sustain: The alliance for better food and farming, there is now a wealth of evidence for the social and environmental benefits of cooked meals, wholefood ingredients and short supply chains, together with clear and actionable recommendations for the policies required to redirect public sector catering towards these goals. 💥 It’s very exciting to see the Crown Commercial Service go live with ‘Dynamic Food Procurement.’ 🤝 The team at Net Zero Now are thrilled to be working on this breakthrough project to track the carbon impact of food served through the value chain from farm to fork and to support identification of reduction opportunities.
