🚑In conflict and humanitarian crises, medics need to think fast and act fast. At the MSF Academy for Healthcare, David, a clinical mentor, is helping healthcare workers strengthen their emergency care skills. By practising the ABCDE approach in a safe environment, practitioners can enhance their skills to stabilise patients and save lives. What is the ABCDE approach? 🔗Find out here https://lnkd.in/e2wSA-MN

About us
Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders is an international medical humanitarian aid organisation. We save peoples' lives in conflict zones, epidemics and natural disasters. Independence, neutrality and impartiality are at the core of everything we do. Our network of medics, logistical professionals and administrative staff spans more than 70 countries. Our medical teams carry out more than nine million patient consultations a year. Our activities run from vaccination campaigns to complex surgery in war zones. From building hospitals to recruiting local teams, our non-medical staff make sure our field projects run smoothly, no matter what happens. And in our 26 headquarter offices around the globe, we fundraise, communicate and advocate on behalf of our patients. All of our income in the UK comes from private donations. Eighty-nine percent goes to our medical projects. Only one percent is spent on administration and staff costs. The rest we reinvest in fundraising. Our independent funding means we can act rapidly; we don’t need to wait for governments or other institutions to send us funds. Following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, we treated our first patients within minutes as we were already on the ground. We work to help people in the greatest need, wherever and whenever they need it. This will always be what motivates us.

We've witnessed Israel indiscriminately attack civilians, deny lifesaving medical care, and obstruct aid delivery for 14 months. A ceasefire is needed now to save lives and move humanitarian aid into Gaza. More in our latest report: https://lnkd.in/dw2jfe3E

🔴 This morning, amidst intense fighting in Al Mawasi, a densely populated area in southern Gaza, twelve of our team members and their families were surrounded by bombing and heavy shootings in their homes. More than 30 others were trapped in the MSF office. "Tanks were invading the area where we live. It was terrifying. We were lying on the ground in our homes for hours and it seemed like the gun fire was coming directly towards us,” says an MSF staff member trapped in Al Mawasi. While injured people were arriving to the MSF emergency room in the health clinic of Al Mawasi, our teams were forced to close the facility due to insecurity, leaving people without lifesaving care. MSF is deeply concerned for the safety of our staff and patients in Gaza and calls all parties to the conflict to protect civilians and all aid workers, and to establish an immediate and permanent ceasefire across the Strip. #CeasefireNOW

🚨 We are closely monitoring the situation in Mayotte, a French archipelago between Madagascar and Mozambique, following the passage of cyclone Chido on 14 December. Initial reports indicate a very serious situation on the island, with water and electricity supplies cut off, roads severely damaged, communication difficulties and a serious human toll, the true extent of which remains unknown at this stage. We are particularly worried about the people living in the shantytowns, which have been completely destroyed. The living conditions of these people were already extremely precarious before the cyclone hit. We are currently gathering information and setting up a team to visit the island as soon as the situation allows, to assess the needs.
