  • We’re excited to celebrate our 10th anniversary this month👏 Every year, we just keep getting bigger and better.... 25 full time staff including 12 Geo's with over 250 years of experience on the books! Over 1.5 Petabyte of RAID5. 2 independent Gbps data links. 10,000 sq. ft of warehouse space. Industrial scale scanning and tape transcription equipment. And our very own METASEIS proprietary software. Thanks to all our team, investors and clients for making us so successful over the last decade, here's to the next 10!!!⭐ (Darren McDonald's first Moveout office space, where it all started > the Moveout team now) #10YearAnniversary

SEG-B data 😶 Hi all! We have just been working with some 1980 SSL SEG-B data recorded on 9-track tape, and thought I would share some of the complexities involved. SEG-B is purely a field-recording format and is by definition a multiplexed format (it predates the time when hardware demultiplexing was feasible). An entire shot record (typically of size 200k to 2Mb) is written to tape as a single-block without any other physical record gaps or markers. It would have to be done this way because the earliest hardware would not have enough memory to be able to buffer the data before writing it to tape, pretty much the data is streamed to tape as fast as it is acquired. The SEG-B standard is pretty 'loose' about certain aspects of the recording format and as a result there are quite a few 'quirky' examples that require further analysis and updating of our code in Metaseis to be able to be read these files automatically and in magnitude. The record lengths in this particular data were variable, the start of each scan was not predictable up-front and had to be calculated using a 'start of scan synchronisation code'. There were also a few other problems with this data which were non-compliant, and merely irritating compared with the previous issue described. The number of bytes per scan in header was a 'red herring'. This number is normally used to automatically determine the number of seismic channels in the data. Some headers were corrupted and extra options had to be added to the code to automatically identify and reject them, otherwise the work of cleaning up the data after transcription would have been significant. The end result of William (Bill) Armstrong's hard work is an exceptionally even more robust SEG-B read application in our Metaseis software. And all that pain happens AFTER you have got the data successfully off the 9-track tape! 🤨

  • 🚨 Exciting News! 🚨 We are thrilled to announce that Garry Daw has won the 2024 Service Award from RockWave🎉 A special shout-out for his outstanding work in helping RockWave repurpose vintage 3D seismic data for an offshore windfarm project. This achievement truly reflects the values we live by at Moveout – making seismic data usable and accessible. Garry’s work ethic and attention to detail helped us achieve this effortlessly, and it’s a perfect embodiment of our ethos. And, of course, RockWave’s legendary Turbine Grease gin is on its way! 🍸 Looking forward to many more successful collaborations and to making seismic data dream projects happen. #3DSeismic #Repurposing #SeismicData #Teamwork #ServiceAward

SERVICE AWARDS 2024 ANNOUNCEMENT In case you’ve never worked with us at RockWave before, you should know that one of our three core company values is to provide great service by delivering beyond expectations. You know how great it feels when someone goes above and beyond for you? The person at the checkout who smiles and engages in conversation with you. Arriving at a holiday cottage to find prosecco and cake. Your teacher who was passionate about their subject and made learning fun. We love service. As a result, we like to hand out an annual award in recognition of when WE have received great service. So, who is this year’s winner….? Well, earlier this year RockWave Repurposed vintage 3D seismic, offshore UKCS, for an offshore windfarm developer. Thankfully, the raw shot-gather data were readily obtainable from the UK National Data Repository (NDR). The big question, however, was: what state would these data from the 1990s be in? Would it all be there? How much work would be required to load the data? What about the navigation? Incredibly, these data were available in SEG-Y format as navigation merged shot-gathers, and they loaded like a dream. For this, our thanks, and our SERVICE AWARD, goes to… 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁 🥁🥁🥁 🥁 🥁 Garry Daw at Moveout Data Thank you, Garry and Moveout, for all your hard work in teeing up RockWave to give these vintage 3D data a new lease of life. Your prize (other than immense satisfaction) is a bottle of famous RockWave ‘Turbine Grease’ gin! We look forward to getting our hands on many more vintage 3D surveys, which load like a dream. #exceptionalservice #3Dseismic #Repurposing
