On the 29th November, the UK Government backed a bill to combat illegal pet smuggling, introduced by vet and MP Danny Chambers. Proposals include reducing allowed pet numbers, banning imports of mutilated or heavily pregnant animals, and raising the import age for puppies and kittens to six months. The bill aims to close travel loopholes exploited by smugglers and improve animal welfare. Supported by MPs, charities, and the BVA, it passed its second reading unanimously.
