  • Just like that, it's Christmas Eve and we've reached the grand finale of the Twelve Days of MISmas. As promised, today's post is a bit different than the previous 11, because it's the one you've all been waiting for: the MIS Year In Review 2024 video! This year has seen us respond to dozens of events all over the world, bring new talent to the team, improve GEO's capabilities and plaster butterflies all over commuter stations. It's safe to say 2024 has had it all! We hope you've enjoyed the MISmas posting and from the entire MIS team, we wish you all a very Happy Holidays and look forward to seeing what 2025 brings!

  • Just a mere two days away from Christmas, we're back with the penultimate Twelve Days of MISmas post! Though November was a relatively quiet month for us, there was still a pretty major event that happened rather close to home, which was Storm Bert. Bert caused significant flooding and damage across large parts of Wales and also some areas in England, driven by exceptional rainfall and heavy winds. Although this saw one GEO release, the team worked very hard to establish potentially flooded areas across Wales to help our UK clients understand how their in-force locations had been impacted. Unwrap Day 11 of MISmas in the pictures below, and be sure to come back tomorrow for the finale!

  • The end of the final full working week of the year is here, and so is Day 10 of MISmas! With just two more posts to go until the big Christmas Eve finale, we're going back just a couple of months to October and our biggest event of the year: Hurricane Milton. Whilst the MIS were 2 weeks deep into our response to Hurricane Helene, Milton quickly became our main focus as it became the third hurricane of the year to make landfall in Florida. Given the sheer size of Milton, it was no surprise that the MIS team spent 3 weeks providing detailed insights into how the major hurricane was impacting our clients' business across Florida, capturing its effects on a significant number of properties across the Sunshine State. That's it for MISmas this week, but make sure to look out for our final two posts of the campaign on the 23rd and 24th!

  • Although the MIS team are currently congregating in London for our Christmas party, we didn't forget about MISmas! As we head into the final quarter of our Twelve Days of MISmas campaign with Day 9, there was only ever going to be one event from September 2024 that we highlighted: Hurricane Helene. For almost 3 weeks, the MIS team worked around the clock to turn vast raw datasets into daily actionable intelligence on how Helene was affecting in-force client locations in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. Whether that was assessing imagery captured by satellites, planes and street cars or establishing damage levels driven by wind or flood, Helene was the second-largest event of the year for us, which is reflected in the breadth of available insights on GEO. Flick through the pictures below to unwrap Day 9 of MISmas!

  • MIS are once again featured in a BBC News Verify article which discusses how Russia are in the process of moving a significant amount of military equipment from bases in Syria. Analysing imagery of these Russia-controlled bases, MIS Intelligence Delivery Manager David Heathcote highlights what this activity could mean in the aftermath of the collapse of the Assad government. Read David's thoughts in the pictures below or head to the BBC for the full article: https://lnkd.in/gZ6PXRk3

  • With Christmas Day just a week away, the MISmas posts continue! Today we are taking a closer look at a major event from August 2024, which comes in the form of the fast-moving wildfires that started just outside Athens, Greece, before making their way into suburbs of the country's capital. With the fires threatening a large number of properties, the MIS team secured the relevant data to make Building Level Damage Assessments for this event, as well as including 50cm Satellite Imagery in the GEO report. Unwrap MISmas Day 8 below, and watch this space for more updates!

  • The MIS team have completed initial assessments of the large earthquake which hit Vanuatu in the early hours of Tuesday December 17th. A full scale response by local emergency services is underway to support those affected by the earthquake and it's subsequent aftershocks, though there has been significant interruption to power and communication across the country. To help clients establish where their in-force locations in Vanuatu may be at risk of damage from the earthquake's effects, the team have released an Event Report and Exposure Layer on GEO. This layer includes a Shakemap to determine the likely intensity of the shaking with subsequent damage estimates in the areas where the earthquake was felt. There is also an Epicenter, showing where the earthquake started and therefore which locations were closest to the initial tremor and at higher risk of being impacted. Head to GEO now to understand where your business may be affected by this major earthquake. If you do not have GEO access but would like to unlock MIS intelligence around this event and apply it to your portfolio data, make sure to contact the MIS team today: https://lnkd.in/egfeipDT

  • As the days count down to our Christmas Eve MISmas surprise, we continue to look back on some of the key events we've responded to throughout 2024. For today's edition of MISmas, we're heading to July and the retrospective MIS assessments of the civil unrest which took place in New Caledonia throughout May and June. With disruption spreading throughout the country's capital, the team were tasked with assessing tens of thousands of buildings for damage, as well as securing imagery of the affected areas. Explore Day 7 of MISmas in the pictures below and keep your eyes peeled for the next update tomorrow!

As we enter the last full working week of the year, we're heading back to 6 months ago and the MIS response to earliest major hurricane in history: Beryl.
