We spent an amazing day delivering an event focused on Maritime UK careers to the pupils of St. Peter's Elwick CofE Primary School! With the help of incredible volunteers from diverse roles in the industry, pupils were able to explore a variety of career paths and gain valuable insight into the maritime field. Earlier this week, the Maritime Skills Commission were delighted to welcome the Maritime Minister, Mike Kane MP, to their final meeting of 2024. The Commission discussed its programme of work including the Cadet Training and Modernisation Programme and the Ratings Review, as well as plans for 2025. Nearly £1m investment for Maritime Clusters across the country to grow local economies Nine maritime clusters across the UK will receive a share of government funding, helping them secure investment for local industry, deliver skills, training and educational programmes. The maritime sector is key to unlocking regional economic growth, and this targeted support aims to revitalise coastal towns and cities, help build the UK’s economy and breakdown barriers to opportunity, as well as driving innovation in the sector. 📣 Quarterly Maritime Skills Commission Meeting Maritime UK and the Department for Transport have established a Maritime Skills Commission to lead the sector’s work in ensuring the maritime sector has a pipeline of talented people to serve all parts of the sector covering shipping, ports, leisure marine, engineering, science, and professional services.
