The Marine Conservation Society is the UK's leading marine charity working towards a cleaner, better protected and healthier ocean, for everyone 🌊 Today, our ocean is in poor health because of human activity. We’re determined to change this, working with communities, businesses and governments. For more than 30 years, we’ve been the voice of the sea, defending our coastal habitats and species. For a cleaner ocean, we find ways to prevent and clean up marine litter and pollution. And we use science to track the health of our waters. For a better-protected ocean, we secure spaces where species and habitats can recover. Only a sea full of life can absorb carbon and tackle climate change. For a healthier ocean, we promote sustainable fishing and aquaculture to minimise harm caused by harvesting and farming resources. And we educate the public so consumers can make better seafood-buying choices. Together, we can achieve our vision of seas full of life, where nature flourishes and people thrive.

We’re extremely thankful for our brilliant #Volunteers and all their hard work to help us fight for a cleaner, healthier #Ocean 🌊 We wanted to celebrate the efforts of those who went the extra mile with our 2024 awards. Congratulations to this year’s deserving winners 🏆 Autumn Rose who won our Young Ocean Optimist of the Year (Under 12s) award shares a few words 💙 Find out more about their amazing work 👉 https://lnkd.in/ex8Zm4FB #Volunteering #OceanActivist
We are working to protect the world's most powerful carbon sink - our ocean 🌊 We've safeguarded an area of seabed the size of Essex, and campaigned for new laws to protect over 4,000km2 in 13 English Marine Protected Areas from bottom-trawling, which disturbs the seabed and the carbon within it. By donating £10 this #Christmas, you can help us combat climate change and give a voice to the ocean in parliament so we can protect more of our seas. 👉 actmcs.org/thrive-25-li

Fantastic to see Scottish Water launch their near real time map for sewage overflows today! Head to their website to take a look: https://lnkd.in/edHh5SjK We at the Marine Conservation Society have been calling for this for years and we welcomed being consulted during its production. Having transparent, near real time data will be an incredibly useful resource for our volunteers and anyone using their local blue space as well as evidence for further action. Following the announcement of 1000 new monitors last week it is great to see such positive steps forward in Scotland. There is still a way to go and we need action from everyone from The Scottish Government to Scottish Water and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency to retailers to individuals to stop sewage entering and impacting Scottish seas! You can read more in our briefing online: https://lnkd.in/eDETeT_F What do you think of the progress so far and what else can we all do to help? #OceanOptimism Calum Duncan Sandy Luk Gillian Martin
The Bathing Water results for England and Wales 2024 are out 🌊 These results inform swimmers on how safe the water quality is at designated spots But there's a problem with the Bathing Water Regulations - they don't paint a full picture. Important samples have been excluded, their definition of a 'bather' is out-dated and they don't take into account the slower seasons when people are still using the water Do you swim, surf, kayak or even just paddle in the sea? We want our seas to be safe for all water users. Join us in responding to the Bathing Water Reform Consultation Read our response to the Reform and use your voice to help protect our seas from sewage pollution 👇 https://lnkd.in/eTUpnzqB
