Travelling by rail this Christmas? The festive season is a key time for rail engineering works, with major projects set to impact journeys at: 🔸 London Paddington (27–29 Dec) – HS2 station construction at Old Oak Common. 🔸 Bedford/Luton (21–29 Dec) – affecting routes to and from London. 🔸 Crewe (25 Dec–2 Jan) – resignalling work. 🔸 Liverpool Street (27 Dec–1 Jan) – station upgrades. 🔸 Plus, other works across the network. We know how important Christmas journeys are, which is why we’ve been working with the rail industry to: - Provide clear travel information. - Ensure alternative routes are communicated. - Plan for timetable resilience and staffing. If you’re travelling by train, make sure to check before you travel and plan ahead. It’s fascinating to watch Old Oak Common station start to take shape as we move (slowly) towards the (partial) opening of HS2 around 2030. I remember pre-Olympics how the then mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, predicted that Stratford would become the best-connected rail station in the country, and he wasn’t far off. Now Old Oak Common is being dubbed the “Stratford of the west”. Great site access and info as usual from HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd 🚝👍
There are good intentions in the latest call for ideas on how to make transport better – such as putting the needs of people first and aspiring to a system that is joined-up, accessible, sustainable and which works for the whole country. But, as London TravelWatch CEO Michael Roberts argues, while work begins on pulling together a national strategy, it is vital not to forget about London. https://lnkd.in/e2muQjnv
