Rookie Cubs & Lion Cubs 1st Training Sessions of the New Year! We had an amazing turnout at our Rookie Cubs' first training session of the year, with some new faces joining in. The newer players worked with Coach James on improving their skating abilities. They were a bit wobbly at the start, but by the end, everyone managed to stay on their feet—even when jumping, balancing on one leg, and pulling off an A-frame stop! The slightly more experienced players teamed up with Coach Ben to work on shooting techniques to lift the puck and grasp the fundamentals of shooting. Our Lions Cubs Inline training session that followed was also fantastic. Coach Ben and Coach James led game play drills, including strategies for 2-on-1 situations and helping our netminder with positioning. Both sessions showed massive improvements, and we look forward to watching all our players grow throughout 2025. Congratulations to Riverside Raiders We're thrilled to announce that the Riverside Raiders clinched a thrilling victory against the Connah's Quay Cobras on Sunday night. Six Lions players took to the ice, with Derek playing in his second game and both Ben and Joe making their debuts for the team. It was an edge-of-your-seat game, going back and forth all night, but the Raiders managed to secure a 15-14 win. Despite the high-scoring game, our netminder James faced a total of 96 shots and made 82 saves. It wasn't just a one-man show; the team pulled together, took advantage of opportunities, and rallied around James, making big blocks while giving him clear sight of the puck. The team is eager for their next games and still has spaces available for anyone looking to join. Training sessions are held every Tuesday from 10:45 PM to 11:45 PM at Widnes Ice Rink. What a Year for Lions Inline Hockey Club! 2024 has been an incredible journey for the Lions Inline Hockey Club! We have witnessed remarkable growth across all age groups and are proud to announce our biggest season yet, with 3 junior teams participating in the West Junior League and 5 senior teams competing in the West and North West Leagues. Our Lions Senior Team had a fantastic season, finishing top of the B League and securing 2nd place in the West League. The confidence of both the Wild Lions and Lions Black teams has soared. Our junior players have been gaining invaluable experience through game days, and we have created two dedicated training sessions for our junior age groups by merging Wild Lions and Lions Black training at the Atherton rink. As we look ahead to 2025, we are committed to further improving all our training sessions. The Lions Senior Team ended the year on a high by participating in the Turkey Cup yesterday. Although they finished 3rd, the team showcased remarkable talent, with five players aged 18 or younger holding their own against tough competition. They came away with 4 wins and 2 losses but played each game with a never-give-up attitude, taking more positives than negatives from the experience. We also expanded into ice hockey by partnering with Riverside Raiders, a successful venture that saw some of our players taking up ice hockey and Riverside players joining us for inline hockey. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our coaches Dani, Oliver, Ben, and James for their hard work over the past 12 months. We also thank all the players and parents for their unwavering support throughout 2024. We wish everyone a Happy New Year! The excitement doesn't stop as the Lions Senior Team resumes training this Thursday, with games against Wigan and Heywood on Sunday morning. Wild Lions and Lions Black training also continues this Sunday, and Riverside Raiders are off to play Cobras at Deeside on Sunday night. We then welcome our Lion Cubs back after the Christmas break for their first training session of 2025 on Monday. Lion Cubs Junior Training Session Highlights | Atherton Roller Rink 🦁🏒 https://buff.ly/3D6XPa6 Hey everyone! Our Lion Cubs had an absolute blast this Sunday night at Atherton Roller Rink. This session is usually reserved for our Wild Lions and Lions Black teams, but with both teams playing games on Sunday, the rink was all ours! Coaching Highlights: - Coach Lincoln: Took the newer players through the basics of skating, passing, and shooting. - Coach Ben: Worked with the more experienced players on advanced drills to sharpen their overall skills for game situations. - Coach James: Focused on the goalkeepers, helping them improve their butterfly techniques, positioning, and even had a fun game of Hungry Hippos. We wrapped up the night with a game, where everyone gave their best effort, putting the drills into practice in a real game scenario. It was a fantastic experience for all!
