Raising awareness of oil and gas pipelines around the UK and encouraging safe working practices around them
About us
Linewatch exists to raise awareness of the hazards associated with working in close proximity to high pressure pipelines. We identify the location of oil and gas pipes across the UK and provide the contact details of the relevant network operators. This ensures safe working procedures are followed, preventing injury to those working near the pipelines, and stopping damage to the network and the environment. The overall activities include: • Raising awareness of safe working practices around high pressure pipelines • Producing standard guidelines for work near pipelines • Producing and presenting Linewatch best practices • Sharing of educational documents and literature • Recommending that all excavation work is preceded by a thorough search on LSBUD's collaborative search portal (www.lsbud.co.uk) • Representing member operators at industry exhibitions and trade shows • Reporting on industry activities within the pipeline zone • Sharing information on third party incidents and near misses For more information, please visit www.linewatch.org.uk

As the year draws towards a festive close, we wanted to thank all those people who supported us in 2024. This could be someone who started following us on social media, attended one of our safety presentations, caught up with us at a trade show or came to chat to one of team at an event. We have loved every second of meeting you and discussing pipeline safety. Overall, it was a positive year for the safe digging community, but we know there is so much more that can do. We look forward to you joining us on our journey in 2025 ⭐ #yearinreview #safety #safedigging #pipelinesafety

Although most people will be ‘logging off’ for Christmas next week, all our members operate emergency telephone lines that are operational 24/7 – even on Christmas Day 🎄 Remember, signs of a possible pipeline leak may include: · pools of fuel · dirt or dust blowing in the air · hissing sounds · gas or petroleum odours · bubbles in standing water · dead or discoloured vegetation · ice on the ground Stay safe! #safety #training https://lnkd.in/eSDuN4u9

Do you know how to work safely around pipelines? ⚠ Regardless of whether you are completing emergency works or not, your first step should always be performing a complete utility search using LSBUD (Linesearch BeforeUdig). The simple search will take less than three minutes, and it flags if there are any pipes or cables nearby. If the search identifies a pipeline, you must contact the specific operator before a digger bucket or spade hits the ground. LSBUD will provide you with the contact details you need when responding to your enquiry. Depending on the type of work you’re completing the network operator will be able to advise you on the best next steps. On occasion, a site visit is required. Although it might seem frustrating, an onsite safety check could save countless lives, so it’s definitely worth it! #pipelinesafety #healthandsafety #safety #digging #safedigging

Did you know that water pipes are vulnerable to bursting due to freezing conditions?❄ Whilst some parts of the UK have seen a hint of snow, the dropping temperatures as we approach December are a cause for concern for the water industry. If you’re undertaking excavation works to fix burst mains, always consider networks nearby to avoid further damage to pipelines. #ukpipelines #safetyfirst #safety #safedigging #saferwithlinewatch

The programme was designed by Linewatch and LSBUD (Linesearch BeforeUdig), with advice and guidance from the Utility Strike Avoidance Group (USAG), to help the utilities and construction industries work more safely when digging. Completely free and able to be completed at your own pace, the course is a great introduction to safe digging for anyone new to the industry or who just wants to brush up on their knowledge. ➡ https://lnkd.in/g4A6vaT #utilities #construction #training #safetytraining #pipelinesafety #saferwithlinewatch

Thank you to all of our Members who joined last week's quarterly member meeting. Whether you were able to join in person or virtually, it was a productive session where we had several safety shares from our members, discussed our social media campaign, and updates to our infringement reporting processes. #training #utilities #safety #saferwithlinewatch
