I asked successful Retrofit professionals from different companies what they would say to someone who's just starting out in this industry... Here's what they had to say:🗣️ 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿: "To be able to contribute to the health and well-being of a family, whilst also helping them to save money on their energy bills gives you a great feeling of positively contributing to society. Knowing the work you do on a daily basis is genuinely placing people and their families in a warmer and energy efficient home from when you first met them and carried out the installation is extremely motivational. Embarking on a career within the retrofit industry is a great opportunity to become part of a growing sector for a better social, environmental and economic world." 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: "Look at the full range of opportunities available, and also the part or fully funded training on offer. Retrofit spans a whole range of skills and disciplines, including hands on practical roles physically installing energy efficiency improvements in people's homes, surveying roles to assess properties for retrofit opportunities and strategic / analytical roles to identify the optimum set of retrofit improvements in one or more properties. As it's a growth area of key importance to UK net zero ambitions, there are often funded training courses on offer to help you get the skills and qualifications needed by the sector." 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿: "There's a good opportunity to learn about the built environment, property and the use and conservation of energy in the goal of reducing emissions for climate change targets" 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿: "To work in the retrofit industry, you need to gain knowledge and expertise in ever changing energy efficient technologies, stay updated on building codes and regs and more importantly try and build a network within the industry. Basically, can you spin 25 plates at the same time?" 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿: "You need to be willing to learn. I’ve been in this industry a LONG time and I still find myself learning new things all the time. The technology is constantly evolving and you need to be able to adapt to this or you will get left behind. There are so many courses out there, many of which will be funded for you. Take a genuine interest and you will do well in this industry."
